Saul is a minor antagonist in the 2019 video game Metro Exodus.
He is a high-ranking member of the Munai-bailer, who is in reality a defector and a double agent working for Giul, secretly planning to depose the true Baron of the crime syndicate, install a puppet leader through the false Baron, and rule it for himself.
Biography[]
Overview[]
Saul is a high-ranking Munai-bailer member. He is in charge of a small group of men and owns a number of vehicles. Despite his intimidating look, Saul is a cunning and devious guy. When Giul began fighting back against the Munai-bailer, Saul saw a chance to get rid of the Baron, so he struck a deal with her to have Giul assassinate the dictator.
He also recruited a double to masquerade as the Baron when the actual Baron died, in order to rally the Munai-bailer behind him and demoralize the slaves by having the Baron "rise from the dead," unbeknownst to her. If Saul's scheme succeeds, he will take over as the genuine leader of the Munai-bailer, governing via the fictitious Baron.
Events of Metro Exodus[]
When the Aurora arrives in the Caspian Desert in their van, Saul and another raider ambush it. They leave right afterwards to notify the Baron, forcing Artyom to accompany them to their station. Due to a sandstorm, Saul attempts to radio the Munai-bailer base but is unable to do so. Saul attacks Artyom as he climbs to the top of the outpost, knocking him down and attempting to murder him. Artyom is able to turn the tables on Saul by putting him in a headlock, forcing him to submit. He can be knocked unconscious or killed.
If Saul is spared, he will later face Artyom with a couple of his men when Artyom takes a sleep. Saul will reward Artyom for saving his life with the 8-shot double-action cylinder for the pistol and will also give Artyom his vehicle.
Saul reveals that he and Giul were planning to assassinate the Baron before Artyom and the Aurora crew arrived, since he wants to take over the Baron's organization. The Baron's paranoia gets the best of him once the Spartans arrive, and he locks himself in his tower and triples the guards, sabotaging Saul's initial plan to have Giul take the Baron down quietly.
As a result, he recommends that Artyom assassinate the Baron in exchange for a prize, promising to leave the Aurora crew alone if Artyom succeeds. Even though Saul is dead, Giul is obliged to combat what left of the Munai-bailer following the Baron's death.
Trivia[]
- Whether or not Artyom meets up with Saul, the outcome remains the same: Anna murders the Baron and Giul blows up the tower.
- After seeing Saul again at the bridge safehouse, it is possible to murder him. There are no negative moral points for doing so. This is simply performed by taking the given handgun and tossing a grenade into the bridge from the ground; if positioned correctly, it will kill Saul and his soldiers.
