~ Kuby to Huell Babineaux when he sleeps on Walter White's drug money |
Patrick Kuby is a supporting character in the crime drama Breaking Bad. He is an employee of the corrupt attorney Saul Goodman who works to enforce his boss's interests in the criminal game through negotiating business transactions, blackmailing individuals and getting involved in organized heists.
He is portrayed by Bill Burr, who also voiced Jason Michaels in Grand Theft Auto IV.
Biography[]
Pre-series[]
Not much is known about Kuby's backstory, but according to Steven Gomez, he grew up in Boston, which explains his accent. Kuby was involved in organized crime in the city before being driven out of Massachusetts by the authorities. Some time before 2004, Kuby moved to Albuquerque and joined its criminal underworld, becoming an associate of Dr. Caldera. When Caldera retired from the game, he handed his list of contacts over to Jimmy McGill. As a result, Kuby would come under the employment of Jimmy, who later rebranded to Saul Goodman.
Breaking Bad[]
Season 4[]
In 2009, Kuby disguised himself as an environmental inspector in order to frame Bogdan for unlawful contamination of water via his car wash. This was done with the help of Skyler White, who fed him relevant legislation through an earpiece to make Bogdan look guilty. This resulted in Walter White purchasing A1A Car Wash from Bogdan as a location for his money laundering. Later, Kuby joined Huell Babineaux in paying a visit to Ted Beneke, forcing him to write a check to prevent the I.R.S. from investigating Skyler's finances. However, Ted broke his neck during an escape attempt. Fearing Ted was dead, Kuby and Huell fled, telling Saul what happened was "an act of God".
Season 5[]
With the formation of Walt's drug empire, Kuby took part in an organized robbery to steal 1,000 gallons of methylamine from a cargo train alongside Walt, Jesse Pinkman, Todd Alquist and Mike Ehrmantraut. Kuby parked a truck in the middle of a train track intersection and signaled to the conductor and engineer of the train that his truck had "broken down". This allowed Walt, Jesse and Todd to loot the heist while Kuby and the men fixed the "issue". Soon, another driver arrived and helped push the truck off the rails. Knowing he was out of time, Kuby signaled to Mike to end the operation.
When Hank Schrader discovered Walt's true identity, Kuby and Huell were sent to retrieve Walt's drug money from a storage unit. Huell couldn't resist lying down in Walt's money, and Kuby followed suit. Huell brought up the idea of taking the cash for themselves and fleeing to Mexico, but Kuby reminded him that Walt had Jack Welker's gang kill ten of Gus Fring's former employees within two minutes, implying they were going to lose their lives if they deserted from Walt's subordination. As such, Huell and Kuby loaded the money into barrels for Walt to collect.
When Jesse betrayed Walt and attempted to burn down his house, Saul and Kuby began looking for him to prevent him from working with Hank. Kuby spied on Skinny Pete and Badger in hopes of them leading him to Jesse, but to no avail.
It is presumed Kuby managed to flee from the criminal underworld following the collapse of Walt's empire.
Post-Breaking Bad[]
In one of the last episodes of Better Call Saul, Gene Takavic called Francesca Liddy and asked her how Saul's former associates were doing. Francesca told Gene she didn't know what Kuby was up to, although she implied he was a free man.
