Mudbound[]
Pappy is an abusive father, who only sees disappointment in his sons. When Jamie and the colored Ronsel Jackson return from World War II, Pappy at first welcomes Jamie but is disappointed when Jamie doesn't how many Germans he killed and gets the answer that he did not know due to not having killed anyone face-to-face, but instead bombed them from above. Pappy didn't like that, as he had killed men (presumably in World War One) while looking them in the eyes.
Pappy is extremely racist towards black people, as he harasses them throughout the movie at any chance he gets. When he meets Ronsel at a store he refuses to let him walk out the front door as it is a norm that colored people walk out the back door.
He hates that his son Jamie befriend Ronsel, and after he sees Jamie driving Ronsel home, he calls the Ku Klux Klan, which kidnaps Rosel and ties him to a snare, preparing to lynch him. However he forces Jamie to decide Ronsel's fate; either have him his eyes cut out, or his testicles or tongue cut off. To which Jamie chooses the tongue.
Pappy is then killed the same night in the sleep by Jamie whom suffocates him with a pillow. In the morning when Henry arrives, he is told that Pappy died peacefully in the sleep.
They then bury him, but Henry has his doubts as it turns out the hole they dug up used to be a slave-grave, which Pappy would never have wanted to have his body buried in.
