~ Niang-Niang |
Niang-Niang is a major character in A Certain Magical Index: New Testament.
She is a Magic God and a member of the True Gremlin, who dwells in a territory beyond a certain layer of the world. She is one of the prominent Magic Gods in the series.
She is voiced by Madoka Asahina.
Appearance[]
Niang-Niang appears as a young woman with an extremely pale complexion that looks purple. She also has long black hair, and green eyes. She wears a short white chinese dress known as a Qipao with baggy sleeves, a hat and a unique charm attached to her forehead. Her qipao also has a heart-shaped cutout. Niang-Niang doesn't wear any panties underneath her dress.
Personality[]
Like most Magic Gods, Niang-Niang is rather eccentric and amoral. She's also very cheerful, playful and mischievous. Her lines use (☆) as terminal punctuation to illustrate this. Due to her status as a Magic God, Niang-Niang is extremely arrogant and has no qualms with interfering the normal world to amuse herself. She is shown to be highly resentful towards Othinus for being allowed to roam the human world freely while she was confined to the Hidden World.
Moreover, Niang-Niang is quite erratic and reckless, as she was willing to wipe out all of Academy City just to destroy the Anti-Art Attachment, a weapon capable of killing Magic Gods. However, she isn't without her honorable traits, as she willingly offered to help Touma and Mikoto against High Priest when he went berserk. She also protected Kakeru Kamisato from her fellow Magic Gods when he was trapped in the New World.
Biography[]
Not much is known about Niang-Niang's past, however, what is known is that she voluntarily took her own life to strip away the impurity of a worldly life, becoming a Shijie-Xian.
At some point in time, she became aquainted with her fellow magic gods and establish Gremlin.
Powers and Abilities[]
Powers[]
Omni-Magic: As a Magic God, Niang-Niang has near-unlimited magical power, being powerful enough to risk destroying the world with her mere presence alone unless precautionary measures are taken. All possibilities are open to her, to the point that even omnipotence paradoxes can apply to her.
- Phase Manipulation: Niang-Niang is able to manipulate the phases of reality, granting her near total control over existence. With this, she can change natural laws, distort reality on a cosmic scale, perform incredible miracles, and instantly destroy and recreate the universe at will. She is also able to manipulate causality, and control dimensions, space, time, matter, energy and all other contents of the world as she desires. As she can control the world in these way, Niang-Niang should be able to wrestle around the control of the things she cannot manipulate.
- Pao-Pei: Niang-Niang is capable of changing her fingertips into various weapons such as swords, spears, axes, hammers, chainsaws, staffs, crossbows, wind-and-fire wheels, clubs, nets, chains, guns, caltrops, whips, hoops, claws, hammers, arrows, spike, discs, hooks, sickles, lances, scissors, halberds, weights, crutches, thorns, forks, rulers, ropes, tubes, bags, boards, saws, etc. These weapons are not based on religious or historical texts, but are weapons used by sages in an ancient Chinese novel. Niang-Niang can produce over a hundred of them simultaneously, claiming each of them to have a different effect, though the only effects she has displayed include a shadow blade that pinned Mikoto Misaka in place without doing physical damage and the ability to surround them with flames and use these explosive flames as a sweeping attack.
- Sparks and Spray: Each of the sage weapons are used to manage the vast power of a Shijie-Xian by dividing it up into genres: attack, defense, recovery, close-quarters, ranged, etc. The weapons would cancel each other out and refuse to mix if they were combined, so she essentially constructs walls between them, placing them in separate frames to preserve their purity. The scale is different, but it causes the same phenomenon as the world’s phase system that divides up the different legends and manages them in their own realms that existed on different levels. As such, Niang-Niang can use her weapons to produce her own invisible "sparks and spray" and attack the enemy from an unseen blind spot.
