Biography[]
Book[]
In the book, Mauhúr is first mentioned when Uglúk's squad notices the riders of Rohan are gaining on them, with Uglúk announcing that Mauhúr would soon reach them en-route with a squadron of reinforcements to help them deliver Merry and Pippin to Saruman.
As night wore on, Mauhúr arrived with his troops and found Uglúk surrounded by the riders of Rohan, though Uglúk and his forces battled fiercely, they were all slain after a ferocious fight. Merry was unsure if Mauhúr himself had been killed in battle or fled.
Movie[]
Mauhúr was sent by Saruman from Isengard with a group of Uruk-Hai troops to aid Uglúk, who had taken charge of Lurtz's scouts after his death and appears much earlier than his book counterpart. Mauhúr and his men accompany Uglúk‘s troops for their entire trip. He can be seen with Uglúk when they encounter Grishnákh. Snaga, and Orc troops.
The two groups travel together to take a break from the long journey. They make a fire. Mauhúr is then seen complaining, saying that he is starving due to his disgust towards maggoty bread. Snaga agrees with him and suggests eating Merry and Pippin, whom Uglúk was delivering to Saruman. After Uglúk decapitates Snaga for trying to eat Merry and Pippin, the Uruk-hai eat his corpse. Mauhúr roars in delight before eating him.
Mauhúr is presumably slain offscreen by Rohirrim Riders.
Video Game[]
In Lord of the Rings Online, the story reveals Mauhúr escaped the riders of Rohan and with his men, establish a settlement known as camp Kufuzg in the Norcrofts of Rohan, where they led organized raids on Rohirrim settlements for Saruman. He is eventually slain by the player character.
Personality[]
Nothing is shown of Mauhúr's personality in the books, other than being a minion of Saruman that sought to help Uglúk by battling the Rohirrim riders so the Hobbits could be delivered to Saruman. Mauhúr never has any on-page dialogue in the books.
In the movie adaptation, Mauhúr, like majority of his fellow Uruk-hai, is short-tempered but ruthlessly loyal to Saruman.
Notes[]
- Whilst Mauhúr's race of orc is never specified in the book, adaptations tend to peg him as one of Saruman's Uruk Hai, due to his status in Saruman's army.
