Marc Sobiesky is the main antagonist in the 1971 giallo film The Iguana with the Tongue of Fire. Sobiesky is an Irishman who kills people who are happier than he is.
He was portrayed by Werner Pochath.
Biography[]
Marc was the son of an ambassador and had a sister named Helen. As the family outcast, he usually accepted monetary charity from his stepfather under pressure and blackmail. He eventually became fed up with various people having more jubilant, successful lives then him and decided to satisfy himself by waging vendettas. He most intently targeted the Sobiesky family because of their posh lifestyles paired with their petty conflict and personal problems. Marc stalked and killed numerous people in a signature fashion, slashing them with a razor and splashed acid in their faces, akin to a notorious predatory reptile, to steal their perfect lives and looks away.
When a man, Mandel, began to blackmail Marc, he killed him as well to silence him. When the investigator on his case was getting close to Helen and closing in on Marc's trail, Marc tried to kill his mother and daughter in their home. He wore a wing, a coat, shades, and a hat to appear to be Helen and trick his way inside. Eventually, he was found out in his last attack, and when he was revealed to be the killer when the disguise was ripped off. In a climactic fight, Marc died from jumping out a window in a suicide escape, crashing through a police cruiser windshield.
