Beast Ninja Makuma is a World Ninja working as a smuggler and assassin for Miyamura Commercial Affairs and the antagonist of episode 7 of Sekai Ninja Sen Jiraiya. He later returns in episode 25 along with his older brother.
He was voiced by Eiji Maruyama, who also voiced numerous other villains and monsters in the Metal Hero and Super Sentai series.
Biography[]
In the past, Makumba was responsible for murdering Jou, a student of Tetsuzan Yamaji who served as head of the African Wildlife Poaching Control, when he interfered in Makumba's operation of killing animals and smuggling their furs.
The first Makumba
Working for Miyamura Commercial Affairs, Makumba poached animals and traded their furs in exchange for weapons from the CEO of Miyamura. His dealings soon caught the attention of Tetsuzan and Toha, the former still furious at him for what he had done to his students. The Sorcerers Clan also caught word of what Makumba was doing and set Benikiba and Retsukiba, along with a trio of Karasutengu, to steal Makumba's goods for themselves. After they broke in however, Makumba picked off the Karasutengu one by one before fighting off the two Sorcerers ninjas and catching Benikiba in a net. It was at that point that Toha showed up and transformed into Jiraiya to fight Makumba, freeing Benikiba in the process. While the head of Miyamura was taken out by Tetsuzan, Jiraiya faced Makumba. Using a projector and some clever shadow tricks, Manabu was able to making Makumba believe he was being haunted by the spirits of the animals he had poached in the past, causing him to freak out. Jiraiya then took the opportunity to defeat and slay Makumba, avenging Jou.
Makumba's older brother later teamed up with the Sorcerers Clan to revive Makumba and defeat Jiraiya. They blackmailed the husband of a ramen cart saleswomen into kidnapping various animals so the elder Makumba could torture them in front of a shrine to the African god Dada. After whipping the animals and offering up their pain as a sacrifice to Dada, Makumba returned to Earth as a spectre and went with his older brother to fight Jiraiya. While the two brothers handled the ninja, the Sorcerers Clan stayed behind to guard the shrine. However, Kei and Manabu were able to get past them and destroy the shrine, causing Makumba's soul to return to the afterlife. The elder Makumba was then finished off by Jiraiya.
Makumba's spirit was later among the evil World Ninjas revived by Madam Spider to take on Jiraiya and his allies. Their spirits were summoned again by Dokusai to enlarge himself.
