Leonardo Monteiro, also known as Léo, is a major antagonists in the Brazilian telenovela A Favorita. He is Catarina's abusive husband and a worker at the pulp mill of Gonçalo.
He was portrayed by Jackson Antunes.
Biography[]
Leo is a man who was educated in a macho way, coming from a poor family he came to São Paulo at a young age and got a job as a worker in the company of Gonçalo Fontini, he met Catarina sometime before the events of the novel and they married and had two children, Mariana and Domenico.
Leo is abusive and sexist, always scorning his wife and criticizing his food saying he prefers to eat the company's food than hers. Leo is also aggressive with his children always beating and yelling at them just as he does with Catarina, to the anger of her family trying to get her to ask for divorce and move in with Copola.
Leo always beats Catherine who does nothing out of fear. One night, Leo comes home angry and asks Catarina to put the food on the table, Catarina suddenly starts crying and Leo humiliates her in front of Mariana, Catarina yells at him and Leo gets angry and beats her.
Mariana becomes pregnant and runs away from home, a drunk Leo invades Copola's house and searching for his daughter, he destroys the place and is swarmed by Copola and Damião.
Upon arriving home he yells at Catarina and the threat, Catarina says he will not talk about Mariana's whereabouts and Leo slaps her, when he is about to beat her Domenico arrives and protects her mother. Leo starts laughing and squealing, he tries to hit Domenico but Catarina threatens him.
As Catarina meets Vanderlei and Stella she changes her personality and style, much to Leo's displeasure. Leo arrives drunk at Stella's restaurant, the new Triunfo resident, he eats and refuses to pay the bill, Leo tries to grab Stella but she is saved by Catarina, in home, Leo insinuates that Catarina will become a lesbian and she slaps him, she goes away to her father's house with Domencio and abandons Leo. Flora takes over Gonçalo's company and communicates this by giving a speech to all the workers, Léo mocks her for being a woman and Flora fires him.
Léo becomes an alcoholic and happens to have a dirty appearance, Catarina and Vanderlei start dating, they have a night of sex, Leo comes home and starts screaming, Vanderlei defends Catarina and punches him. Copola takes Leo away and he blames Stella for everything that's going on. One night, Leo sees Dedina (who was kicked out of the house again after cheating on her husband) on the street, he assaults her and tries to rape her, but Leo can't and Dedina mocks him.
Spiteful because Catarina will marry Vanderlei, Leo blames Stella for all this and chases her when she is riding a bicycle, Leo approaches Stella in the woods and tries to strupa her, fortunately Catarina arrives and saves her, Leo is arrested when the police arrive.
A while after serving time in prison, Leo is released and finds Mariana with Ursula, her newborn daughter, Leo tries to get close to Mariana and catch Ursula but she won't let him and despise him. Leo goes away back north.

- Although it is unconfirmed, it is implied that Leo sexually abused Mariana, as she tells him that she will not let him do to Ursula the same thing that happened to her.
