~ King Calvus |
Calvus Caesar IV (or commonly know as King Calvus) is the main antagonist of the Ravenna Realm segment as well as the Bronze Sea arc as a whole in the storyline of the Roblox game Arcane Odyssey, serving as the overarching antagonist of Chapters 1 and 3, one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside General Argos) of Chapter 2 and the main antagonist of Chapter 4. He also serves as an overarching antagonist for the rest of the storyline.
Calvus was the third king of the Ravenna Realm and a minor High Lord for the Order of Aesir. He sought to make his Kingdom stronger by any means necessary, as well as preserve the legacies of his father and grandfather.
Biography[]
Past[]
Calvus was born the son of King Octavious Caesar and the older brother of Revon Caesar. His father died early, so he became king at a young age. Not wanting Ravenna to be vulnerable, he searched endlessly for power or assistance, eventually meeting the Order of Aesir. The group trained him in the usage of magic, martial arts and weaponry in exchange for his loyalty.
Calvus rose through the ranks, eventually becoming a High Lord. He had his father's most loyal soldier, General Argos, made one of his Barons and encouraged the children of his cousin, Lord Ulricus, Elius and Carina, to work for the Order as well. He eventually found a Sea Curse, the Glass Curse, and had General Julian take it. However, as a nation was nothing without a large supply of Sea Curses, he hunted for more and more of them, setting his sights on the Death Curse, hoping to absorb it himself.
Much like his father, he continued the work of his grandfather, Nero Caesar, exterminating survivors of the Winterveil massacre and imprisoning anyone who found out about the nation's dark secrets, all while putting up the façade to his brother and people that his actions were just, kind and necessary for the kingdom. Among those he had killed were descendants of Kessler Broeas, ordering an assassination on the family. Kessler's son was killed, but his grandchildren survived. He promised to have Tiberia district returned to its former glory, while secretly continuing to neglect it, simultaneously feeding to his people that the Tiberian citizens were lesser due to their poverty. When the nations of Keraxe and Sameria threatened to go to war, jeopardising his control over the Bronze Sea, he had them sign a treaty together, Ravenna's power ensuring the two wouldn't dare fight.
Hunt for the Death Curse[]
Eventually, he found out about Beringer, user of the Cloud Curse. Though it was a weaker curse, it still offered immense power as a political bargaining chip. What Calvus really desired though was Beringer's knowledge, as he knew the location of the Death Curse. Argos and Elius had Beringer captured, and Argos took him to Fort Talos for questioning. Calvus departed to retrieve the Curse after Argos gleaned that it was in the Dark Sea. However, the Player had defeated Elius and discovered the Order's intentions, breaking into Fort Talos along with their companion, Morden. Morden found Beringer first, who told him the location of the Death Curse so that he may reach it before Calvus. Calvus searched the Dark Sea for days, before learning that Fort Talos had been destroyed and Argos was now dead. He returned to Ravenna with a burning anger, something seen as unusual by most of his acquaintances.
Upon returning to Ravenna, he found that Julian had incapacitated the Player after they killed Carina. He had them imprisoned in the Eternal Mines, while mulling over what to do next now he had lost most of his operatives and with the Death Curse seemingly out of reach. After a month, the Player's companions: Morden, Iris and Neviro broke them out of the mines. The group rushed to the throne room of Ravenna Castello, but were waylaid by Ravenna Centurions and Julian, leaving only the Player and Neviro left by the time they reached the throne room. Their, they confronted Calvus, Neviro revealing himself to be the prince of Winterveil he had attempted to have assassinated so long ago, seeking justice for the crimes done to his kingdom. Calvus mocked them, promising to kill them all and retrieve the Death Curse from Morden, before impaling Neviro with his trident and blasting him into the ceiling with his Aether magic. He fought the Player one on one, but as he grew close to defeat, he channelled the true power of his lineage, utilising his Aether magic to its fullest. Despite this, he was defeated. He cursed the Player, telling them about how people like them were searched for by the Order for years, and yet one just appeared before him, though they had no idea what he meant due to still suffering from amnesia caused by the Order's experiments. Calvus noted how lucky they were to escape the Order so many times, but promised that he wouldn't betray the identities of his fellow High Lords, even in death. The Player told him that he was evil, and asked him if he truly couldn't see that, to which he retorted that everything was part of a bigger picture, explaining his backstory and stated that even if the Order was evil, they were necessary. Convinced of his depravity, the Player simply told him the world would be better with him. Calvus ranted that without him the treaty between Keraxe and Sameria would fall through and once again preached the necessity of the Order of Aesir for without them no nation would truly function, and the world would be sent back five hundred years. Morden and Iris, who had survived the battle, entered the room and Neviro, who had also survived his attack, told him he was wrong, for they would stop the war before it even started. In despair that he had truly grown so weak that he had failed to kill Neviro, Calvus told the player to get on with it, and they approached and killed him.
Legacy[]
Following his death, the group fled Ravenna Castello, chased by an army of Ravenna Centurions and Ensigns. While on the shore, they were confronted by Revon, who had discovered his brother's corpse and sought to kill them all to avenge him, blind to Calvus' evil. The Player easily defeated Revon, sparing them since it was clear he wasn't involved with Calvus' crimes, but Revon promised to hunt them across the globe if it was necessary in order to kill them. Iris, Morden, Neviro and the Player all became wanted fugitives thanks to their deeds, but Neviro desired to fix the kingdom, returning in hopes of helping them rebuild and exposing the true evil of their rulers.
