Goliath is the titular main antagonist of the 1972 Toho film Daigoro vs. Goliath.

He was suit portrayed by Hisashi Kato.

Biography[]

Goliath comes to Earth through an asteroid. He attacks multiple cities before being confronted by Daigoro, an infant giant monster. Despite his best efforts to battle against the alien menace, Goliath easily defeated Daigoro by releasing electricity from his horn and shocks the infant unconscious. Leaving behind Daigoro to die, Goliath continued his rampage across Japan, testing his powers against the world.

Meanwhile, Daigoro, having survived the encounter, recovers from his wounds and is trained by the humans in combat. After Goliath finishes destroying a city, he rests on an island, in which humans place a parachute over his horn. The next day, Daigoro returns for his rematch against Goliath. Because the parachute blocking his horn prevented Goliath from releasing electricity, and Daigoro's training, Daigoro manages to gain the upper hand. Even though Goliath managed to pull the parachute off his horn, Goliath successfully defeated him by spewing fire onto his horn, overloading Goliath and knocking him out. The humans and Daigoro then tie Goliath to a rocket that blasts off and sends him back into space.

Appearance[]

Goliath is a giant blue dinosaur-like alien with sharp fangs and claws. On his back is a brown shell that serves as armor. He also has a horn on his forehead.

Powers and Abilities[]

Goliath's main weapon is a large horn on his head that he can use to rip through buildings. It can also be used to conduct electricity, and release bolts of lightning. However, if his horn is blocked, it cannot generate anymore electricity. Even without his horn, Goliath is very agile as he can run quickly and can leap high in the air. He can also fly.

Trivia[]

  • Goliath shares his roar with Astromons from Ultraman Taro.
  • Originally, the film was to be titled Godzilla vs. Redmoon, where Redmoon and Erabus would go berserk through Tokyo after their child Hafun was stolen and killed with Godzilla stepping up to stop them. After plans of the film fell through, Redmoon was reworked into Goliath.
