Gladys, to the left of Helio.
Gladys is an antagonist in Bravely Default II. She is the bearer of the sword master asterisk and is also the brother of Galahad, who himself wields an asterisk (though unlike Galahad, it’s not explained how she obtained the asterisk).
She is voiced by Kezia Burrows, who also voiced Sorceress Sellen in Elden Ring.
Biography[]
Gladys serves as a hunter for accused criminals in Rimedhal. She and Helio work as a team, with Glady hunting who she believed to be fairies and Helio passing judgment on those who are accused of being fairies.
She and Helio fight the party when they go to investigate the Jaws of Judgment, and discover that Helio had secretly been committing mass murder. Gladys initially does not believe their claims, but eventually discovers that the party was telling the truth after losing her asterisk to the heroes. Afterwards, she discovers that Helio was secretly an Holograd spy.
Wishing to make amends for what she had done and with an impending invasion from Holograd (Helio had taken the Fire Crystal, thus making it easier for the empire to invade), Gladys decides to fight to save Rimedhal from Adam. However, she is fatally wounded by a soldier for killing his sister. Afterwards, Helio stops by and, realizing that Gladys is fatally wounded and no longer needing to pretend to be a moral person, happily admits to being the real killer of her parents. However, Gladys knocks the fire crystal from him in an attempt to murder him. After this, Gladys succumbs to her wound as she gives the Fire Crystal to the party.
Powers and Abilities[]
Gladys fights with a sword and uses powerful attacks, offsetting her partner Helio and her brother Galahad. Her fighting style is mostly centered on offense, though she possesses a counterattacking ability.
Personality[]
Gladys is motivated by the deaths of her parents. However, she eventually discovers that Helio used her for his own gain. In this regard, she can be considered a foil to him.
Trivia[]
By knocking the Fire Crystal from Helio’s hands, it can be said that Gladys avenged her parents, as the Fire Crystal likely could have shielded Helio from Gwyndion ‘s flames otherwise.
