George Barnet is an important secondary villain of the Giallo film The Case of the Scorpion's Tail. Barnet is a steward and the accomplice of insurance thief and murderer Peter Lynch and a mass murderer in his own right, promised a cut when going along with the plan, but double-crossed by Lynch when he was a liability.
He was portrayed by TomĂ¡s PicĂ³.
Biography[]
Lynch hired Barnet to seduce Lisa Baumer, wife of socialite Kurt, for an affair, then directed Barnet to detonate a bomb on an overseas plane that killed her husband Kurt and the other hundred or so passengers and crew on board. As Lisa stood to inherit Kurt's fortune, she traveled to Athens to meet Barnet under the lie he told her that they'd have a getaway with the money. Barnet, in the meantime, stayed at a hotel with his real girlfriend, a stewardess he worked with. Once Lisa retrieved the money, Lynch, the insurance investigator on the case, slaughtered Lisa and swiped the money.
As Lynch grew fond of journalist of Cléo Dupont, and in need of an alibi to divert suspicion from himself, Lynch order Barnet to break inside Cléo's studio apartment and nearly kill her, before Lynch "saved" her by breaking back inside by the time Barnet fled. Barnet even kicked Lynch's face as part of the ruse. Lynch left a cuff link modeled to look like Kurt's at the scene, then lied he believed Kurt was still alive to create a diversion. Fearing blackmail, Lynch tracked Barnet to his hotel room and tried to slit his throat with Lynch's switchblade, but Barnet fought back and they got into a direct combat fight. Barnet knocked Lynch back and got the switchblade to use in a counter attack, but Lynch snatched a broken bottle and stabbed Barnet's eye. As Barnet collapsed screaming, Lynch stabbed his heart with the blade and left him to die. When his girlfriend came in wearing a pin just like the cuff link, the police knew Lynch was the killer and shot him dead before Cléo was next to die.
