Biography[]
Past[]
Idunn was once a young member of the divine dragon tribe that lived during the time when humans and dragons coexisted in harmony in the continent of Elibe. When humanity declared an all out war on dragon kind sparking The Scouring, the divine dragons stayed neutral during the conflict.
As the warring dragon tribes started fall short due to humanity's sheer numbers and reproduction speed, they pleaded for the divine dragons surrender one of their own and become a demon dragon that can mass-produce mindless artificial dragons called War Dragons as cannon-fodder.
The divine dragons however, where disgusted and refused such a plea, believe the idea to be an abomination against nature. Not wanting to contribute to either side, the divine dragons fled to the Nabata Desert, where they would create a hidden kingdom where humans and dragons can coexist in harmony in the years to come.
However, Idunn decided to stay home, fearing that the warring dragons might go into conflict with the divine dragons. The fire dragon tribe quickly used Idunn's decision to their advantage and captured her.
After hours of grueling torture Fire Dragons where able to corrupt Idunn by fracturing her soul from within, turning her into a demon dragon, a souless being meant only to serve it's masters and mass-produce war dragons.
With a now mindless Idunn creating war dragons at a rapid rate, the dragons seem to have gotten the upper-hand. But humanity fought back by creating the Legendary Weapons, artifacts so powerful that they created an ice age called the Eternal Winter Which severely weakened the dragons and forced them to turn into manaketes to conserve their energy.
The legendary heroes of humanity then stormed the dragon temple and slayed their leader, but when they confronted Idunn, all they saw was a lone sorrowful child.
Feeling pity for the poor child they instead sealed the dragon away in a deep slumber, leaving humanity victorious and the dragon gone from the continent.
Present[]
In the years to follow, the insane tyrant of Bern Zephiel, viewing humanity as an infection that needs to be purged, unsealed Idunn from her slumber, in the hopes of replacing humanity with dragons.
Zephiel's plans start going as intended with Idunn mass producing war dragons and causing trouble for the neighboring kingdoms, but fearing that his twisted ambitions will be all for nothing, sends Idunn to the Dragon Temple with the fire dragon Jahn in place to safeguard her should Zephiel fall.
Idunn was then given the order to continuously spawn war dragons until humanity is extinguished, ensuring that Zephiel's plans will come to fruition even if he dies.
When Zephiel and Jahn where slain by Roy and his army, they confront Idunn at the top of the Dragon Temple, where she assumes her monstrous dragon form. After a fierce final battle, Roy was able to defeat Idunn but not kill her thanks to the power of the Binding Blade.
Freed from her corruption, Idunn was then to taken to the kingdom of Arcadia where her broken soul slowly began to heal, finally feeling emotions after years of being a weapon of war.
Other Media[]
Fire Emblem Heroes[]
Idunn is a playable character in the gacha mobile game Fire Emblem Heroes. She was added on March 8, 2019, under the "Beyond Darkness" banner, her spring variation who she is paired with Fae was added on March 18, 2020, under the "Familial Festivities" banner and her ascended variation was added on February 18, 2022 under the "New Heroes & Ascended Idunn" banner.
Fire Emblem Engage[]
Idunn appeared as a Dark Emblem summoned by Lord Sombron during the final battle. Roy is surprised to see her like this, but he's determined to defeat her and free her soul.
She is almost mentioned by Roy in his paralogue, The Young Lion. He tells Alear of how Zephiel tried to resurrect her, a Demon Dragon which had Heterochromia like Alear, to destroy humanity. Roy also mentions that he had a choice to kill or save her, he promised he'd tell Alear his choice once the war was over, but that was never seen in the game. This is a nod to the second possible ending of Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade where Idunn is killed if Fae also died and/or Roy didn't deliver the final blow on Idunn with the Binding Blade.
