Biography[]
Debbie Strand is the sole survivor of an arson fire that killed her abusive mother and her mother's lover, and is sent to live with her estranged elderly grandmother Fiona Long, an ultra-conservative fundamentalist Christian and her annoying pet dog Bebe. Her grandmother is equally abusive and physically violent, and forces her to wear her mother's demeaning, outdated clothes from her teenage years. Debbie fatally suffocates her grandmother's dog and beats her grandmother to death with her cane after she reads her intimate diary and tells her she's putting her in a reform school. Debbie becomes infatuated with her new English teacher Peter Rinaldi, who has a girlfriend named Marilyn and rebuffs Debbie's repeated advances. She continues to involve herself in Peter's life and murders some people around her (including a sympathetic childcare worker, an obnoxious classmate/neighbor who tries to rape her and a gothic loner whom she initially befriends), anyone else who comes get in her way. During the hectic climax, Debbie breaks into their home with the intention of killing Peter's girlfriend. Peter realizes Debbie has gone there and follows her. While he is on his way, Debbie confronts Marilyn, who attempts to flee through the kitchen, but is brought down by Debbie, who knocks her unconscious. As Debbie attempts to murder her, Peter rushes in and stops her. Debbie is eventually arrested and placed in an institution.
