~ Cyrus Vanch
"I don't forgive and I don't forget."
~ Cyrus Vanch

Cyrus Vanch is a secondary antagonist in Season 1 of the CW television series Arrow.

Cyrus Vanch is a ruthless and wealthy businessman who escapes from prison in "Arrow." He takes over the city's criminal underworld using his connections and resources. Arrow infiltrates his organization and with the help of Detective Quentin Lance and his team, brings him down and ensures he remains in prison. Although Vanch makes a brief appearance in season two, he is ultimately depicted as a manipulative criminal who is no match for the combined efforts of Arrow and the police.

He was portrayed by David Anders who played Blaine Debeers in Izombie and John Gilbert in The Vampire Diaries.

Roles[]

His role in the show is mainly as an antagonist to Oliver Queen, the vigilante known as Arrow, and his team. Vanch's criminal activities and plans for the city provide a major challenge for Arrow, who is determined to stop him. In the end, Arrow and the police are able to bring Vanch down and ensure that he stays in prison, though he briefly appears in a later episode to provide information to Oliver about a new threat. Overall, Vanch's role in "Arrow" is that of a formidable and dangerous opponent who tests the limits of Arrow's abilities and resources.

Personality[]

He is able to recruit an army of mercenaries and take over the city's criminal underworld with ease, using his resources and connections to his advantage. Vanch is also portrayed as a charismatic and persuasive speaker, able to manipulate people into doing what he wants.

Despite his success, Vanch is also shown to be somewhat paranoid and easily angered. He is quick to suspect betrayal from his subordinates and will not hesitate to take extreme measures to punish those who cross him. Overall, Vanch's personality in "Arrow" is that of a dangerous and unpredictable individual who poses a significant threat to the city and its inhabitants.

Season 1[]

After being released from prison, Cyrus Vanch kills his lawyer George Wolfman and takes over his mansion with his girlfriend Vivian. He plans to impress various criminal organizations to claim his piece of the underworld. The Hood, overhearing their conversation, tries to intervene but fails. Vanch and Vivian learn about The Hood's connection to Laurel Lance, one of the attorneys who prosecuted Vanch, and kidnap her to use as bait.
