Biography[]
Season Four[]
Decker first appears in "Chuck Versus the Cliffhanger" where he's in charge of transporting Alexei Volkoff to another prison. When Chuck Bartowski and John Casey break into the old prison to find Volkoff, whom they need to save Sarah Walker after she was poisoned, Decker introduces himself on a large screen and informs them of Volkoff's prison transport.
En route, Decker uses special Intersect suppression glasses on Volkoff, removing the faulty Intersect that's been corrupting his mind and restoring his original personality as Hartley Winterbottom just when Chuck reached the truck to break Hartley out. Decker uses his authority to disband Team Bartowski, so he captures Chuck and removes the Intersect 2.0 from his head. Later that night, Decker and his men try to stop Chuck from giving Sarah the Irridium-6 needed to save her life. Fortunately, Chuck is backed up by Volkoff Industries surrounding Decker and his men at gunpoint, allowing him to make it to the hospital in time to save Sarah. He also has a flashdrive contraining evidence of Decker's crimes and his involvement with Agent X, threatening to publically release it if Decker doesn't leave him, his friends and his family alone. Wanting revenge, Decker secretly sends Chuck a pair of Intersect Glasses containing Hartley's Intersect under General Beckman's name to corrupt him. However, Chuck's best friend Morgan Grimes finds the glasses first and casually puts them on, accidentally uploading the Intersect into his brain instead.
The Plan[]
Months later, in "Chuck Versus the Zoom", Decker foils Charmaicle Industries' heist during a mission and freezes all of Chuck and Sarah's assets, preventing the couple from buying the dream house Chuck planned on surprising Sarah with. He also issues a hit against Morgan in "Chuck Versus the Business Trip", and when that fails, he arrests John Casey for killing some of his men. He offers to release Casey if Chuck and Sarah steal a computer virus called "The Omen" that can delete any computer system in Burbank. However, when they give him the virus with the help of Gertrude Verbanski, an old lover of Casey's, Decker reneges on the deal and reveals that he plans on framing them for the virus being stolen and released. Fortunately, Verbanski pick-pockets the virus back from Decker and plants a bomb in his jacket, killing him.
Legacy[]
Despite his death, Decker's plan to release "The Omen" eventually succeeded at the hands of the virus's creator in "Chuck Versus the Curse". It's also revealed in "Chuck Versus the Santa Suit" that Decker was working for Daniel Shaw as part of his plan to break out of prison and get revenge on Chuck.
Trivia[]
- Decker was the catalyst for the fifth season's final arc. By accidentally corrupting Morgan with the faulty Intersect glasses that were meant for Chuck, he caused Morgan to quit the team to work for Verbanski Corporation where he would accidentally leave the glasses on a mission in Veil. The team's efforts to recover the glasses caused the entire conflict with Nicholas Quinn who wanted the Intersect for himself, leading him to brainwash Sarah with the same Intersect to make her kill Chuck. Thus, Decker was indirectly responsible for destroying Chuck and Sarah's relationship in the series finale.
