Cerberus, also known as Cerberus the Ice Guardian is a supporting antagonist in Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening. This frozen demonic creature is the guardian to the entrance of the Temen-ni-gru, and the second boss Dante encounters. It is also revealed in Devil May Cry 5 that he is part of a race of fellow 3-headed canine demon beasts of the same name and the mightiest of them all is called "King Cerberus".

He was voiced by Larry Leong, who also voiced Beowulf and Agni and Rudra in the same game and Berial in Devil May Cry 4.

Appearance[]

Cerberus is a three-headed hellhound. His entire body is encased with an armor made of ice, and has chains wrapped all over his body.

Devil May Cry 3[]

When Dante enters the Temen-ni-gru for the first time, he encounters Cerberus frozen inside the tower. Cerberus, who originally thought that Dante was human, demanded him to leave immediately. But then attacks Dante after being mocked by him. Cerberus fought Dante with a huge array of Ice attack. He could create avalanches, breathe out ice, create an armor made out of ice, and ram at Dante. During their confrontation, Cerberus loses two on his heads.

After being defeated by Dante, Cerberus asked his he was human, to which replied that he wasn't sure. After which, Cerberus respected Dante's power. He then turned himself a Devil Arm, and gave himself to Dante.

Trivia[]

  • In Greek mythology, Cerberus is the hound of the Greek death god Hades and guardian of the entrance to the Underworld. He appears in The Divine Comedy as the guardian of the third circle of Hell, in which gluttons are punished by constant black rain and icy slush for their overeating and selfish hunger in life before death.
  • The cutscene following Cerberus' defeat will change slightly depending on which head is the last to be defeated. The dialogue; however, will remain the same.
  • When entering the Demon World, Cerberus' battle theme had been heard being transformed into a distorted and deeper version of the human one, much like the other themes.
  • Cerberus is mentioned in Devil May Cry 5, on Mission 16. King Cerberus, the gatekeeper of the Qliphoth, explicitly told Dante that Cerberus was a "weaker kin" and only the King Cerberus can bring him down. Dante taunted King Cerberus and told him that he "wants to take him out for a walk" is a similar manner to the cutscene in Devil May Cry 3 where Dante does the same to Cerberus.
  • Even though Cerberus was never in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, his Devil Arm form makes an appearance as one of Dante's weapons.
