Captain McManus is the secondary antagonist of the 2018 sci-fi thriller film, The Darkest Minds. He is the sadistic captain of the camps where the psis are kept.
He was portrayed by Wade Williams, who also played Black Mask in Batman: Under the Red Hood, Brad Bellick in the TV Series Prison Break, Claude's Father in the 2002 erotic drama film Ken Park, Two-Face in Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Killer Croc in Beware the Batman, and Mantis in Batman: The Brave and the Bold.
Biography[]
Captain McManus is the sadistic overseer of the camps where the psi children are enslaved and forced to work. There, McManus enjoys abusing and intimidating the slaves, having the dangerous or disobedient ones murdered. McManus picks up the captured psis from Clancy Gray, where they are imprisoned at the camps. At the internment camp, he bullies and threatens Ruby Daly while she is working and forces her to be compliant. He has one of the other prisoners, Sam, taken away to be killed after she speaks out against him and has her painfully experimented on.
After Ruby Daly's escape, McManus learns that she is an Orange and has the doctor who wrongfully diagnoses her, burned alive by a Red, who he had abused and brainwashed into becoming ruthless killers for Clancy. McManus works to track down Ruby and the other escapees from the camps.
When Ruby and her friends make it to Clancy’s refugee camp, Captain McManus is sent by Clancy to come collect the refugees. McManus eagerly awaits to capture them. He is pinned up against the wall by Liam, but Liam is quickly subdued by Clancy's mind control. Clancy uses his powers to paralyze Liam, so that he can beat him. When Clancy is unable to continue due to his hand being in pain, he has McManus take over. McManaus gleefully does so and continues to sadistically beat Liam. Ruby stops McManus by taking control of his mind, before forcing him to take out his pistol and shoot himself dead.
Personality[]
McManus is a cruel, sadistic, and brutish tyrant who enjoys abusing the psi children and making them suffer. He expects full obedience from them all and punishes any defiance or failure. He shows no care for anyone but himself and follows Clancy for giving him power of the psis.
