William P. "Billy" Hope is a minor antagonist in the 2013 survival horror video game Outlast and its DLC Outlast: Whistleblower. He is a patient at Mount Massive Asylum and is the first host of the Walrider.
Biography[]
Outlast[]
He is the Walrider's first host, spending the remaining amount of time in his life within a glass sphere controlling the Walrider. Through controlling the Walrider, he decided to wreak havoc at the Asylum out of rage.
He might believe that Rudolf Wernicke is his father, as his the one who kept Billy alive with the Walrider. He was in a sphere, possibly glass, with many tubes and instruments running into and out of his body. He is kept alive by the machine but Miles Upshur kills him by stopping the flow of fluids from the reservoir and turns off power to his machine. As a result, Billy bleeds out inside the machine rapidly. The Walrider then leaves Billy's corpse and attacks Miles, replacing him as the Walrider's new host.
Outlast: Whistleblower[]
While Billy doesn't make an appearance in the game, he is mentioned in the game. While Andrew and sexually assaulting Waylon Park in the Morphogenic therapy, his assistant informs him about Billy reaching "lateral ascension" with the project before leaving in a hurry.
Outlast: The Murkoff Account[]
After apparently being killed by Miles, the Walrider, possesses Billy's body, resurfaces at the caravan of Billy's mother, Tiffany Hope. While Tiffany talks with agents Paul Marion and Pauline Glick, Glick reveals that Billy was not mentally ill; instead, Tiffany had sold him to Murkoff for money. Enraged, Billy attacks Tiffany, proclaiming his "love" for her, and tears her apart while the two agents flee. Murkoff then assaults the trailer using sonic weaponry mounted on several large vehicles, presumably ending Billy's life once and for all.
