Villain Overview

Bad show. Jolly bad show.
~ Anti-Pops in a reversal of Pop's usual catchphrase.
Ha! Tell you what, Pops. I'll make you a gentlemanly deal. You and I fight one on one, just you and me. If you knock me down, the universe is safe. You go home, and everything is... regular again. But if I knock you down... I DESTROY THE UNIVERSE! How's that for gentlemanly?
~ Anti-Pops to Pops.

Malum Kranus, better known as Anti-Pops, is the main antagonist of the Cartoon Network animated TV series Regular Show.

He is the malevolent twin brother and archenemy of Pops Maellard and a godlike embodiment of evil, who is so powerful that he is capable of destroying the entire universe. Anti-Pops seeks to kill his twin brother and wipe out the universe to recreate it in his own twisted image.

He was voiced by Robert Englund, who also played the Stag-Man in the same show, Freddy Krueger in the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, the Riddler in The Batman, Bill Gartley in The Mangler, Scarecrow in Injustice 2, Felix Faust in Justice League: Paradise Lost, Lucifer in Married With Children..., and the title character in the 1989 film adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera.

Appearance[]

Anti-Pops is similar to his twin brother, Pops, but all black around him and fully glows white without any pupils. He has a lightning shaped mustache and beard with razor-sharp teeth, in addition of a black colored cape.

Personality[]

You only think that because happy for me feels like sad to you. Like how you see blue where I see orange, but you learned to call your version of blue "orange."
~ Anti-Pops explaining to Pops why they cannot get along because of their opposing views towards everything.
Defeat

Anti-Pops accepts his defeat.

As the complete opposite of Pops, Anti-Pops is evil, sadistic, cruel, cold-hearted, sinister, ruthless, authoritative, dangerous and megalomaniacal as he wants to rule all and destroy his brother who is destined to defeat him. He also gives out bad reviews to the point of attempting to give them a negative number of stars. By the end, however, it implies that he shows remorse, stating that he wished that he could take back all the one-star reviews as he and Pops are hurled into a star. Pops cheers him up, embraces his brother and smiles before meeting their end.

History[]

Early life[]

He and his brother Pops were born on their home planet Lolliland. For reasons that haven't been revealed yet, other than having been born with a completely different gift, he wants his brother dead.

Season 8[]

S8E27P1

Anti-Pops ordering his men.

At the beginning and end of each universe, the two brothers battle. This battle always ends in a draw and the universe resets. In his first full appearance he is seen killing a space store clerk, since he was taking too long to give his soldier his change. He then proceeds with an attack on the space tree, but Pops escapes his grasp. In his next appearance, he is frustrated that Pops has not been tracked, no special sauce came with his noodles, and that the lowest rating he could give the noodle company was zero stars and not negative five stars. Throughout this season, he is constantly trying to get Pops killed by doing various things like hiring Bounty Hunters. He eventually tricks Pops into meeting him at a space arcade and almost kills him. However, the rest of the park crew save the day, with Pops' trainer Earl also sacrificing himself to save Drops and is erased from existence by him.

Anti-Pops with his generals.

In his final appearance during the season finale, he erases almost everyone from existence except Mordecai, Rigby, and Pops, who he was dueling with. He comes close to victory, but Pops tackles him with a hug, and they are both killed by flying into the sun. Anti-Pops shows remorse for his actions. Anti-Pops and Pops' demise ends the cycle of universal destruction and rebirth every 14 billion years, as well as resurrecting those who were erased by Anti-Pops.

Quotes[]

Bad show. Bad show indeed.
~ Anti-Pops.
HE'S ALREADY AT LOLLILAND?!?!?!? You, WHY AREN'T WE MOVING?!!
~ Anti-Pops' anger.
Any last words, Mitch?
~ Anti-Pops.
Anti-Pops: Give up, Pops. All your friends are going to die, and there's nothing you can do about it.
Pops: We can still resolve this, Brother.
Anti-Pops: Stop calling me that!
~ Anti-Pops to Pops.
Anti-Pops: Oh, this can't work, Pops. The minute you let me go, i'm gonna blast you into nothing.
Pops: I know... so, I'm not going to let go.
Anti-Pops: What? Ahh...
NO! You'll kill us both, you fool!
~ Anti-Pops reluctantly facing his destiny with Pops as they're about to crash at the sun.
My God, all those one star reviews - I wish I could take it all back.
~ Anti-Pops' last words of redemption.

  • Universal reset: He also requires Pops to do it, but when they clash their fists, they end up causing a great explosion of his power that ends up restarting the universe, repeating the cycle.

Trivia[]

  • Anti-Pops only made an appearance in the eighth and final season as its main antagonist, but the fact that that he is the Big Bad of an entire season makes him the main antagonist of the series.
  • Unlike the other characters in the Regular Show franchise, Anti-Pops is the only one to have white outlines.
  • Anti-Pops' death is considered one of the saddest defeats of the animated series since Pops is the only employee of the Park to have a brotherly bond with Anti-Pops. Despite Pops sacrificing himself by sending his brother into the sun and his adoptive father never seeing Pops back on Earth because of his brother at the end of the animated series.
