Anissa is a major antagonist in the Image Comics series Invincible and its animated adaptation of the same name. She is the most powerful female soldier of the Viltrum Empire, who was sent to supervise Mark Grayson's progress on conquering Earth after Omni-Man abandons post.
She is voiced by Shantel VanSanten.
Biography[]
Overview[]
Like all other Viltrumites, Anissa was born on the planet Viltrum and witnessed Thragg’s rise to Grand Regent.
She interrupted Mark and Debbie Grayson's lunch (Amber Bennett in the TV series) to get his attention. She threatened to kill his mother if he didn't follow her. After Mark agreed to talk in the sky, she told him to be quick or she'd kill his mother and everyone on earth. She explained how the people on earth had a low chance of surviving within the next centuries without billions being killed. She also explained that the planet would lose a lot because of human greed and that the Viltrum Empire could fix the planet's problems with its technology. After Mark’s refusal after killing a monster attacking a ship, she’d beat him. After doing that, she warned him again that if he didn’t comply with the mission, an unknown Viltrumite, possibly Kregg or even Thragg along with the other Viltrumites, would wipe out the planet.
She would return to the Viltrum Warship to Kregg, reported that the mission was a failure, she would then be summoned to fight and capture Allen the Alien.
Viltrumite War[]
Some years later, Anissa would be sent to take down the coaltion of Planets and rammed right through the coaltion's home base tower, where Thadeus was at.
She was later been seen attacking, Thaedus, Tech Jacket but was defeated by Omni-Man, and the Grayson Brothers.
Later along with General Kregg, relocated to Viltrum in order to stage a tactical attack, and fought against Omni-Man, she would later be shocked when learning that Mark Grayson had killed Conquest and was distracted long enough for Nolan to uppercut her in the face.
Omni-Man, Invincible and Thadeus, along with Space Racer, destroyed Viltrum, and Anissa along with the viltrumites watched as Thragg ended Thadeus life. Anissa joined the other viltrumites in brutalizing Allen, but was saved by Space Racer.
Life on Earth[]
Anissa like the other survivors of viltrum, gathered to earth and was force to disguise herself, and caught the attention of several humans in a perverse manner.
Anissa despises trying to establish building a life on earth, even having to make a child with the humans, she also witness Thragg almost kill Nolan, as Thragg admits that Nolan is the heir of argall, Anissa assuming command of this operation, leads the viltrumites to rebel against Thragg and kill him, but is stopped by Nolan who tells him to let Thragg live, Anissa along with the others kneel to Nolan.
The Ultimate Sin[]
Much later, Anissa establishes a cat and mouse game with Invincible, having some lustful feelings for him. These feelings turned into assault when Mark who returned from a breakup with his beloved Atom Eve, met with Anissa trying to persuade Mark in creating a hybrid child, however Mark wanted to get away, but Anissa was able to force herself onto Mark, and traumatized the poor fellow, however Anissa told Mark to man up as it will take a few more attempts and flies away.
Mark and Anissa would be seen a few times, as Mark gets upset even grabbing her by the throat, but Anissa finds joy and wants to speed up their next meeting.
However Mark left earth, and Anissa never got the chance, and settled down and met a man named Scott Murphy, Anissa's ramifications with Invincible later gave birth Marky Murphy, and the two would have another child. For the next 4 years, Anissa began to regret her actions, with the empire and Mark. When Mark returned to meet with Nolan, Anissa decided this opportunity to apologize, but instead Atom Eve, stopped her, until Nolan and Mark showed up, Nolan grabs Anissa by the throat and demands what did he do to Mark? However Mark says she didn't do anything, much to Eve's enragement.
Anissa was summoned for one last fight conflict with Thragg and in the process saves Eve, from one of Thragg's controlled Ragnars, but gets fatality slashed in the chest, in her dying breath tells Eve to tell Mark that she's sorry, but doesn't regret her decision that day, but wants him to see her and (really) his son. One of the doctors confirms Anissa dies.
