~ Gettler threatening to kill Vesper Lynd |
Adolph Gettler is a major antagonist in the 2006 James Bond film Casino Royale. He is an agent for Quantum, working for Mr. White to obtain James Bond's winnings from a high-stakes poker game with Le Chiffre, with help from Bond's lover Vesper Lynd.
He was portrayed by Richard Sammel, who also played Thomas Eichorst in The Strain.
History[]
Following the death of Le Chiffre, James Bond decides to retire from MI6 and start a new life with Vesper Lynd after depositing his casino winnings on behalf of the British government. However, he soon learns that the money was never deposited, and that Vesper has betrayed him by delivering the money to Mr. White (as part of the deal she made with him earlier). It also turns out that part of the deal involved killing Le Chiffre, as Mr. White could no longer trust him. Mr. White then contacts Gettler to ensure that the money Le Chiffre lost returns to Quantum.
Gettler is first encountered as he meets Vesper Lynd in Venice to receive the money she had stolen from Bond previously. However, Bond chases the two into a building under renovation. A gunfight ensues shortly after, during which the inflatable supports for the building are punctured and the building begins to collapse. Bond tries to rescue Vesper, making his way up the building and killing Gettler's men as he does so. In a final confrontation between the two, Gettler runs towards Bond, but Bond kills him by shooting him in the left eye with a nailgun.
