Several types of Taxis have appeared in Thomas & Friends media.
Sodor Taxis[]
These Taxis provide door-to-door passenger transport service throughout the Island of Sodor.
In the fifth series, James once saw Mrs. Kyndley ride in Taxi 1 to Ffarquhar. In the seventh series, Arthur was seen pulling a train of flatbeds carrying two taxis and two old lorries. In the fourteenth series, Dowager Hatt rode Taxi 2 to Knapford to meet her son, Sir Topham Hatt.

Most of the taxis are based on Austin London Taxis of 1936. The Police Cars share the same basis.
Livery[]
The taxis have two liveries. Taxi 1 is painted in an indigo-blue livery with a black roof and black fenders, whereas Taxi 2 is painted in an all-over black livery.
They each have yellow rooflights with "TAXI" written in black. Their registration plates are black with "TAXI" followed by their respective numbers painted in white.

Trivia[]
- Only two taxis were made during the Model Series, from Series 5 and appeared up until Series 12. While, in the CGI Series, multiple CGI models of Taxi 1 and Taxi 2's have appeared onscreen together.
- Taxi 2's model used to be on display at Drayton Manor, but it was sent back to storage in early 2020. The model was then redisplayed at the second Clearwater Event in August 2022 and at the Tugs The Exhibition's 10 Anniversary Event in 2023.
- In the CGI Series, the Police Cars are modified from the Sodor Taxis.
- In Make Someone Happy, a taxi has the same driver as Lorry 1 in Horrid Lorry.

Port Taxis[]
These Taxis were exclusive to the magazines.
In the magazines, one of these taxis brought Sir Topham Hatt, his wife and grandchildren to the Sodor Airport as they were to embark for Spain. When the Hatts returned from their holiday, they rode back home via taxi.

There are many yellow taxis in New York City, United States.
In Thomas is Leaving Sodor for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade!, Thomas imagined what he would look like as a New York Taxi.

The taxis are based on a Checker Marathon, Dodge Polara and third generation Chevrolet Caprice. They were some of the most common and recognizable Taxis of New York City.

These taxis are painted yellow. They originally had a black and white checked stripe across their sides.
