Konoe Nagisa (近衛汀 Konoe Nagisa?), formerly Takebayashi Nagisa (武林汀 Takebayashi Nagisa?), is a student of Ninoude High, who appears in Toaru Kagaku no Railgun. She was one of the adopted daughters of Takebayashi Family.[1]

In her first encounter with Ruri, Konoe had unkempt dark hair and heavy-lidded eyes.[1]

Background[]
At some point in the past, she was adopted by the Takebayashi Family alongside multiple others, to be sent to Academy City with the goal of at least one adoptee entering Tokiwadai and obtaining the school's Majesty title (and the alleged position on the Board of Directors it was supposed to promise). Her level wasn't high enough to meet Tokiwadai's minimum requirement, Level 3. After the Tanrei Chemicals incident and Takebayashi Yayoi's arrest, the Takebayashi family went bankrupt and she was taken in by a branch family, her name being changed from Takebayashi Nagisa to Konoe Nagisa.[1]

First Year Arc[]

At some point late in the year prior to the main story, Konoe was approached by an organization who sought to recruit her as an industrial spy in Academy City. Being unable to get into Tokiwadai and afraid that even her branch family would abandoned her for not accomplishing anything, Konoe decided she would try something in the city's underworld (something she later described as stupid) and expressed interest in the offer, contacting low-level members of the organization several times. However, Spark Signal was pursuing the organization and after arresting a courier, found her name on a list of students they hoped to recruit. They planned to intervene when she was set to meet a top-level member of the organization, in order to get enough information from them to take down the whole organization.[2]

The day when the meeting was due to take place, Shin'enkouji Rurikakesu approached Konoe for information, calling her by her previous name. She initially pretended to be someone else using her ability and tried to flee when Ruri wasn't fooled but was tripped by her ability. She acquiesced and went with Ruri to an abandoned building, with the two unaware that they were being watched.[1] On being questioned by Ruri about the recent company takedowns, Konoe denied being behind Tanrei's downfall or avenging Yayoi, stating that while she didn't mind her, the adoptees were rivals and they had no obligation to Yayoi, though she added that the younger ones really seemed to like her.[1]
Their conversation was then interrupted, first by Misaka Mikoto and Kessai Kiyoshi who had secretly followed hoping to see Ruri's Judgment work,[1] and then by a Spark Signal squad after Konoe,[1][2] who shot at her legs as she attempted to flee,[1] with Ruri's protection saving her from serious injury. Fleeing outside with her, Ruri gave Konoe a five-minute buff to allow her to escape while she fought Spark Signal,[3] who had mistaken the girls for members of the organization.[2]

A short time after the girl's clash with Spark Signal was stopped, Konoe approached Ruri while disguised as an old woman to apologize for the trouble and thank her for letting her go, confirming the circumstances that put her in Spark Signal's sights. She informed Ruri that while the adopted girls had been taken in by the branch families, the original Takebayashi plan was still in effect, with the girls taken by the Sha and Kessai families currently at Tokiwadai, before saying goodbye, doubting that they would see each other again.[2]
Abilities[]
Konoe Nagisa's ability allows her to change her face by physically tugging her facial muscles.[1] She is also capable of disguising herself and doing so reasonably quickly.[2]
