The Wiki of the Dead

Diane (ディアヌ, Dianu?), also referred to as the Queen of Ice, was a vampire and the lover of Auguste. She is the secondary antagonist and the fourth boss of Vampire Night, a 2000 spiritual successor to the House of the Dead series.

Having lived a life of hostility and sacrifice, Diane was loyal to Auguste and attempted to protect him from vampire hunters Michel and Albert. She was ultimately killed inside the castle.

Diane wields hydrokinetic powers both in her human and vampire forms. As a vampire, she appears as a monstrous mermaid-like creature. Her weak point is the upper half of her body.

History[]

As member of a family with mermaid lineage, Diane has been persecuted since birth. Therefore, she understands and shares Auguste's sorrow. She decided to follow Auguste, even though she realized that no light would shine upon their path. Her love for Auguste was her only motive to become a vampire..

Hunter's Files entry[src]

Since birth, Diane and her family were persecuted by humans due to their mermaid lineage, causing her to have hatred against humanity. One fateful day, Diane met the vampire, Auguste, who's sorrows she both shared and understood due to how humanity viewed them.

Having developed feelings towards the vampire count, Diane decided to follow him by becoming a full-fledged vampire, fully aware that it would mean living her life as a monster along with Auguste.

After the vampire hunters, Michel and Albert arrived at the village, Diane and the other vampires observed the hunters' progress. One by one, the hunters were able to defeat Bathe'lemy, Guillaume and Rauoul, leaving only Count Auguste and Diane herself as the remaining vampires.

As Auguste was about to head out to deal with the hunters, Diane stopped him and volunteered herself to repel the hunters, much to Auguste's reluctance. Diane sent her minions to attack the hunters, all the while projecting illusions of herself, begging the hunters to retreat. The hunters didn't heed her warnings and pressed onward, fighting their way through crystal vampires, eventually reaching Diane's chamber where they are confronted by the Queen of Ice herself.

As they were about to duel, Caroline intervened, upset that they couldn't settle their differences peacefully. Diane was amused at the idea of humans and vampires coexisting, but her love and loyalty to Auguste ultimately meant she was determined to try and fight off the hunters, transforming into her true form.

After the hunters defeated her, Diane reverted back to her human form, wistfully wondering if what Caroline said about humans and vampires living together could be a possibility. She then finally says farewell to her beloved vampire, thanking him for the love he'd shown her before succumbing to her wounds, causing her chamber to collapse with her inside it.

Relationships[]

Somewhat ironically given her moniker as the Queen of Ice, Diane is shown to be the most warm towards her fellow vampires. On top of her deeply felt love for Auguste, she also appears deeply grieved by Guillaume's death, to the point of sharing the news personally with Rauoul. She also tries to show sympathy towards Rauoul for the loss of his beloved, though he does not appreciate her gesture.

She also notably does not mock or insult Michel and Albert, instead repeatedly begging them to leave before confronting them in a boss battle. She appears to be aware of their true nature, something none of the other major vampires except Auguste seem to be, at one point begging them to "please let us be like as you once did 300 years ago".

Skills and abilities[]

Diane's powers consists of making projections of herself, along with hydrokinesis, the ability control and manipulate water, creating deadly ice crystals in the form of orbs, arrows and chakrams.

True form[]

Her true form is not a result of her vampire blood, but rather the mermaid blood that courses through her veins. Although mermaids have a long lifespan, it is nothing compared to that of a vampire. In exchange for eternal life she had to sacrifice her beauty.

True Form[src]

Diane's true form is that of a hideous monstrous mermaid. In this form, Diane is able to swim in water, as well as manipulate it by creating water vortexes and ice crystals as projectile weapons. Diane's weak point is her upper torso, although she cannot be harmed while she is submerged in water.

Gameplay[]

Human form[]

  • Diane will throw ice crystals.

Strategies[]

  • Shoot the ice crystals to destroy them. Ignore Diane as she will not take damage.

Vampire form[]

Phases[]

  • Diane will use one of the three random attacks and continues doing so until she is defeated:
    • Diane will summon ice chakrams, swords or spears from a distance.
    • Diane will summon water vortexes to surround her while moving.
    • Diane will swim around before biting the player(s).

Strategies[]

  • For the summoning of ice chakrams, swords or spears, Diane is relatively still while the projectiles align and move toward the player(s).
  • For the water vortex attack, the water vortexes are impervious to damage.

Quotes[]

Quote Audio
"Leave at once. Sir Vampire has suffered enough..."
"So be it! If this is what you want, I must stop you here."
"So you have come this far... but I cannot let you go any further!"
"Humans and vampires compromising? What a silly thing you say, little one. But I can't stop here... The warmth Sir Vampire has given me. I can't turn back now!"
"Little one, what you said may be true. Thank you and farewell, my beloved Vampire."

Trivia[]

  • She is one of two bosses who fights in human form but the lifebar only appears when fighting in vampire form. The other boss is Guillaume.
  • Diane is the only female major vampire in the game.
  • Diane is the youngest of the major vampires, being only 19 years old.
  • While Diane doesn’t have an actual boss counterpart from the House of the Dead series, her boss battle is similar to Sun from The House of the Dead III in that both bosses are fought in circular rooms while the players circle them. She’s also similar to Death as they both attack the players throughout the stages they appear in.
