Terminator 7 is the working title of an upcoming Terminator film.
Plot[]
Indications are that Terminator 7 is completely removed from the continuity of any previous film. According to James Cameron, it is intended that Terminator 7 be far more focused on AI, as opposed to previous films where entities such as Skynet were usually kept in the background.[1] Modern AI concepts will be interwoven into the narrative.[2] Neither John or Sarah Connor will feature. It has also been indicated that the film will feature a brand new take on the titular Terminator units, with Cameron referring to ditching the traditional iconography of prior installments.[3]
In contrast to the above information, a statement posted by the Economic Times indicates that Terminator 7 is set during or after the War Against the Machines. The statement read "As dawn broke on August 29th, 2029, the solitary survivor emerged to a desolate cityscape, where ruins, dust, and skeletal remnants adorned the landscape. Stan Paxton, a wanderer, had endured the aftermath of the fallout and the relentless conflict between the resistance and machines. Despite the fractures within the Resistance, the fight for survival against Skynet persisted."[2]
Development[]
James Cameron began working on the script of a seventh Terminator film in February, 2023. In May of the same year, he told the crowd at a Dell Tech World event that the script had been put on hold because he wanted to see how real-world AI would develop before working on the script further.[1]
As of February, 2024, the film's script was still being worked on, but the film did not have the green light.[4] In April 2024, Cameron stated that he was still "exploring the type of story" he wanted to tell, and that the film might be a one-and-done, or part of a multi-film arc.[5] In September 2024, Cameron confirmed that the movie (or possibly movies) was in development.[3]
