Rey was a Human female scavenger who later became a Padawan learner in the New Jedi Order.
Biography[]
A scavenger from nowhere[]
Rey was born in 15 ABY to Dathan and Miramir.[1] When she was six years old, she was abandoned on the planet Jakku and left in in the care of the cruel junk dealer Unkar Plutt. Training as a scavenger, Rey was forced to fend for herself on the harsh desert world against the planet's climate as well as rival scavengers working for Plutt.[2]
In 41 ABY, while exploring the Graveyard of Giants, she encountered an armored man named Atha Prime. At Atha's behest, Rey took him to the remains of the crashed Super Star Destroyer Ravager. As they explored the Ravager's interior, Atha Prime was confronted by the Jedi Knight Jaden Korr, who had come for Rey at the behest of Abeloth. It was Abeloth's belief that Rey was the reincarnation of the Force-wielder Daughter and sought to use the scavenger as part of her plot to recreate the dynasty of Mortis.[2]
Before Jaden could enact Abeloth's plan, they were interrupted by the arrival of a team of Jedi and Glorians led by Toah Jarsan, who had come to stop Atha Prime from resurrecting the Sith Lord Darth Vorath. During the clash that ensued, Atha realized Rey was Force-sensitive and attempted to use the Mindspear containing Darth Vorath's consciousness on her, only to be thwarted by Jarsan. Simultaneously, Abeloth was vanquished by the First Order, rendering her own plans moot. After the conflict, Rey agreed to train as a Jedi and was taken on as an apprentice by Toah Jarsan.[2]

The Corellian conspiracy[]
A year into her time as a Padawan learner, Rey and Jarsan accompanied Resistance agents Poe Dameron and Jessika Pava to Corellia to uncover a conspiracy pertaining to the Malvis Cabal. While meeting with Dameron's contact Slakeel, Rey attempted to use the Force to get information out of the drunken Azumel but was stopped from going too far by Jarsan. The group then crossed paths with Kyla Kishanti and her team of Renegades, who happened to have some intel on the Cabal through their newest member Sare Valrisa and offered to help Jarsan and his team.[3]
Along with Zarin Kal and Bedo, Rey and Jarsan attempted to get into the First Light by posing as a musical band, but the Arkanian receptionist Lunara did not buy their cover story. They then encountered Kylo Ren and his Knights and the two groups briefly crossed blades only for the Curator Sal Tyrius to intervene, bringing all parties to the office of Thrackan Sal-Solo.[3]
Before an understanding could be reached, the First Light was captured by the Veiled Sorority, with Rey and the other female members of the team being taken to a separate cell block from the males. While the women were being confronted by the pirates Viira and Ketanna, Rey used the Force to steal a comlink from the latter before using it to briefly choke Viira, scaring them off. While Kishanti used the comlink to get help from her friend Ramun, Jarsan and his group were able to cause a disruption in their cell block, distracting the guards in Rey and the others' cell block enough for her to push them away with the Force, inciting a breakout.[3]
After reuniting with Jarsan and the others, Rey fought against Mal Banvor's droid insurrectionists until they were shut down by Banvor himself once his demonstration had attracted the Cabal's attention. Rey and Jarsan's team then departed from Corellia, with the disposed head of state Thrackan Sal-Solo as their prisoner.[3]
The map to the first Jedi Temple[]
Returning to Tython, Rey continued her training under Jarsan, a process which she still demonstrated much frustration in. They later met with the Jedi Council, who gave them a mission to find the map to the first Jedi Temple which was being hunted down by the First Order according to the stormtrooper deserter Finn. Along with Finn, Master Nira Maren, and three Resistance pilots, Rey and Jarsan traveled to Jakku to find the last known owner of the map, a priest named Chek Urhed.[4]
Shortly after meeting with Urhed, Rey and her group were confronted by Kirk Bar'derro and his thugs, who had been hired by Unkar Plutt to find the map. The two groups were forced to work together until Plutt and his thugs were killed by their employer Ochi of Bestoon when they failed to deliver results by the deadline they had been given. Rey felt that she recognized Ochi but could not place where the two had met before. After Urhed revealed the map's true location, Ochi convinced the Jedi and their allies to accept his help and Rey and Jarsan accompanied the assassin to his ship. Upon seeing Ochi's ship, the Bestoon Legacy, Rey was struck by a vision of the past, recognizing the ship from the day when her parents left her on Jakku.[4]
Traveling to Lothal, Rey and the others disembarked for the ruins of the Lothal Jedi Temple, where they were confronted by Kane Skywalker. Before the Skywalker clone could provide them with the map, Star Destroyers appeared in Lothal's sky as the First Order began their occupation of the planet. Fleeing to the capital city, Rey and the others were confronted by a squad of stormtroopers led by Captain Phasma only to be saved by Mara Jade Skywalker and her son Owen.[4]
At Mara's insistence, Rey and the others fled to their ships to escape Lothal, with Rey, Toah, and Nira joining Mara and Owen on the Jade Sabre. Traveling to the Calamari system, they rejoined with the others at the Dawn of Tranquility, only for the First Order to follow them to the system and launch an attack on Mon Cala. As the battle waged on, Rey was alarmed as Toah passed out, sensing the reemergence of Darth Vorath's spirit.[4]
Following the battle, Rey rejoined the others at the Resistance Base on D'Qar and sat with Poe and Finn when the former was asked by Wedge Antilles to command Rogue Squadron.[4]
Mission to Naboo[]
Rey later accompanied Toah and the Solo family to Naboo, where they planned to attend the wedding of Leia Organa's distant cousin Darius Naberrie.[5]
While Leia attended the ceremony, Rey trained with remotes aboard the Millennium Falcon, expressing her frustration when she failed to deflect their blasts. Flustered, Rey left the Falcon to take a walk through the city of Theed. As she approached the Temple of Shiraya, where the wedding was being held, Rey noticed a blaster bolt hit Darius Naberrie in the shoulder. Tracing the bolt's origin, Rey stormed into the building where she found the bounty hunters Remar Almor and Sharbrook. Rey attacked Almor and threatened him, nearly letting her anger take a hold of her until a pair of Naboo security officers intervened to arrest Almor. Sharbrook then attacked them, only for Rey to slice off his arm with her lightsaber.[5]
After reuniting with Toah following the incident, Rey received a lecture about letting her emotions get the best of her. The two Jedi were then interrupted by the sudden appearance of a medical droid wandering through Theed Palace. While Rey suggested they follow the droid, Toah instead insisted they bring the matter to the attention of Captain Dainé Fallos. Shortly after speaking with Captain Fallos, Rey, Toah, and the rest of Leia's party were summoned to the throne room of Queen Renemé, who revealed that she was in league with the First Order.[5]
Rey and the others were then captured and brought aboard the Mega Star Destroyer Supremacy, flagship of Supreme Leader Snoke. Placed in a cell with Finn, Rey learned from the ex-stormtrooper about why he defected from the First Order, as well as the fact that he deeply regretted having to kill one of his brother-in-arms back on Lothal. The two were later rescued from their cell by the Renegades and managed to escape from the Supremacy after Snoke had seemingly been killed by Kylo Ren.[5]
Returning to Naboo, Rey confided in Finn on how little she knew of her early life and how she wanted to find her parents. At that moment, the two were interrupted by the same droid she and Toah had seen earlier, which introduced itself as 11-4D and claimed to know where to find Rey's parents.[5] Deciding to keep 11-4D's presence a secret for the meantime, Finn found a way to shut off 11-4D and the pair sneaked the droid onto the Millennium Falcon. Once they were back on D'Qar, Finn found a hiding place for 11-4D while Rey traveled to Tython with Toah and the reborn Luke Skywalker.[1]
Following a false trail[]
After Luke Skywalker was reinstated as Grand Master of the Jedi Order, Rey wasted no time in informing Toah of 11-4D and the two headed back to D'Qar so she could show him the droid. Upon reactivation, 11-4D informed Rey that he had belonged to her parents until he was sold to the junk dealer Jonkar Ludd on Ronyards. While Rey insisted they travel to Ronyards immediately, Toah suggested they get approval from General Organa before they did anything. However, while Toah spoke with Leia regarding a mission to Coruscant, Rey and Finn stole a Resistance transport and departed from D'Qar for Ronyards, leaving Toah behind.[1]
Arriving on Ronyards, Rey and Finn were confronted by a pair of sentry droids that ordered the two of them to leave. They were then approached by an IG model droid known as AG-37, who offered to take them to see Jonkar Ludd. Meeting with the Besalisk junk dealer, Rey was told by Ludd that he did not know what happened to her parents after they had sold 11-4D to him. Refusing to accept this answer, Rey tried to use the Force to pry information from his mind, only to find nothing and accidentally leaving him in a mindless, vegetative state. In response, the droids under Ludd's service began to attack Rey and Finn, destroying their ship in the process. AG-37 proceeded to help them escape the planet aboard his ship.[1]
Once they were away, AG-37 offered to take them to Denon. After learning that they were with the Resistance, while he turned their offer to join, he instead took them to Batuu so they could meet with another droid acquaintance of his, a Resistance ally known as AL1-L3 or "Allie." After arriving on Batuu and parting ways with AG-37, Rey and Finn informed Allie of their need to return to D'Qar. However, Batuu had since fallen under the surveillance of the First Order and Allie had lost contact with her fellow Resistance operative Vi Moradi. Allie agreed to help them get back to D'Qar provided they helped her find Moradi, to wich Rey and Finn agreed.[1]
After disguising herself in a smuggler's uniform combined with a worn Mandalorian helmet, Rey joined Finn and Allie in searching for Moradi. As they walked down Savi's Path, Rey suddenly sensed the presence of a Sith holocron coming from Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities. Ignoring Finn and Allie's protests, Rey ventured into the antique shop and took the holocron, inadvertently drawing the attention of patrolling stormtroopers. Fleeing down Savi's Path, the trio made their way into a clearing where they lost their pursuers, only for Rey to then sense the presence of Kylo Ren.[1]
As the Knight of Ren approached her, he demanded that she hand over the holocron, to which Rey refused, not realizing she was being tempted by the Sith artifact. As the two of them dueled, Finn tried to come to her aid only to be knocked unconscious. After defeating Rey and disabling Allie, Ren revealed to Rey that the holocron belonged to the ancient Sith Lord Darth Trayus. Rather than take the holocron for himself, however, he instead left it in Rey's possession, telling her that she would likely get more out of it than he would. He then left with an open offer to seek him out should she desire teaching that the Jedi could never offer her.[1]
After Ren departed, Rey, Finn, and Allie's remains were found and rescued by Vi Moradi herself and they departed from Batuu, slipping past the First Order fleet as Ren had deliberately allowed them to escape. As they traveled back to D'Qar, Rey was haunted by visions of a dark world and a mysterious figure that felt familiar to her. After a brief argument with Finn, they arrived in the Ileenium system to find it under siege from First Order forces, causing Rey to realize that she and Finn had deliberately been led astray by 11-4D so that he could lead the First Order to the location of the Resistance Base.[1]
Evacuation of D'Qar[]
Evading the First Order's ships, Rey, Finn, and Moradi managed to make it to General Organa's flagship, the Raddus, as it evacuated from D'Qar. Upon meeting with Organa, Rey took responsibility for the attack due to bringing 11-4D to the base, which Leia dismissed as moot believing the droid had likely already been destroyed by the First Order's bombardment. Thanks to the timely arrival of the Errant Venture, the Raddus and the rest of the Resistance ships managed to escape from D'Qar and made the jump to hyperspace, heading for Crait.[6]
Once the Resistance had settled at the abandoned Rebel base on Crait, Rey and Finn spoke with the technician Rose Tico, whom they had met earlier on D'Qar prior to their departure for Ronyards. After Rose left for her duties, Finn confronted Rey about withholding information from General Organa, particularly about her actions on Ronyards. Rey fiercely denied his accusations before walking away from him.[6]
Mission to Darkknell[]
Shortly afterwards, Rey and Finn were assigned to a mission led by Poe Dameron that brought them to Darkknell, where they were to seek out a Resistance agent known simply as "Gray." After arriving in the city of Xakrea, they were able to locate Gray who informed them that the previous governor had been disposed and replaced with one who had First Order sympathies, jeopardizing his position.[6]
At that moment, several members of the Tandoon Clan attacked the other members of the team, with Jessika Pava in particular being framed for killing an Ikkrukkian mercenary. With the help of Gray, Rey and the others were able to escape from Xakrea, making their way to a settlement where a group of Imperial unaligned with the First Order were located.[6]
During a meeting between the Resistance members and the Imperials, Gray proposed a plan to help the Imperial reestablish the Empire in order to combat the First Order. While Dameron rejected the idea, Rey expressed her support of the idea, seeing it as an opportunity worth taking. Before discussions could develop further, the governor of Darkknell Xorn Gavrik broadcasted the public execution of two captured Resistance members. Rey insisted that they return to Xakrea to which Gray agreed, revealing that Gavrik was about to receive the Chief of State Tyron Valrisa as a guest.[6]
Disguising herself as a priestess, Rey teamed up Gray in the return mission to Xakrea while Dameron and the others focused on breaking into the governor's building. While undercover, Gray revealed to her his true name—Kalen Rusher—as well as the fact that he had once been a Jedi before leaving the Order to pursue his own beliefs. He expressed to her his philosophy of the Force being a balancing act between the light and dark sides of the Force, and that a Force user was justified in using either one depending on the situation. He also revealed to her that her master, Toah Jarsan, had stayed out of most of the Glorian War, causing her to doubt her master's own dedication to the Jedi and her training.[6]
Their conversations were interrupted when they were attacked by a trio of assassins: Aurra Sing, Zarin Kal, and Alema Rar. The three had been sent by the Sith to capture Rey for the purposes of fulfilling their designs. While Finn came to their aid and dealt with Aurra Sing, Rey and Kalen Rusher clashed with Kal and Rar. Recognizing Kal from previous missions, Rey was enraged by the Kiffar's betrayal and, giving into her anger, impaled him with her lightsaber, killing the former Jedi. She was then stabbed by Sing with a knife laced with Delphidian poison, which knocked her unconscious.[6]
Finding a new path[]
After Dameron and the others completed their mission, they returned to the Imperial settlement, where medics extracted the toxin from Rey's body and administered an antidote. Upon awakening, she found Kalen at her side and confided him about her feelings regarding her killing Kal. At that moment, Jarsan arrived to take her back to Crait. However, Rey turned him down, deciding instead to follow Kalen as she saw his philosophy as making more sense to her than the Jedi's. Not concealing his disappointment, Jarsan bid farewell to Rey and left her with Kalen.[6]
Once Rey had fully healed, she and Kalen departed from Darkknell, making a jump to the Ando system to evade First Order patrols. While in the system, Rey revealed to Kalen that she was still in possession of the Sith holocron that she had found on Batuu, which Kalen told her to hang on to.[6]
Personality and traits[]
Due to growing up under the harsh conditions of Jakku, Rey was accustomed to warm temperatures. Her job as a scavenger also meant that she was skilled with retrieving parts and cleaning them to be sold to Unkar Plutt. By the time she was an adult, Rey was used to dealing with rival scavengers such as Durkus and used her dry wit to stand up to them in the face of adversary. She would also use this tone with Plutt, who was not as easily intimidated as Durkus and the other scavengers.[2]
While most people living on Jakku had grown to become cynical, Rey remained optimistic that she would be reunited with her family and find a life beyond Jakku.[2] When she became a Jedi, this optimism turned into stubbornness, prioritizing finding her family over the Resistance's objectives when she found 11-4D and took a ship to follow his directions to Ronyards rather than accompany her master Jarsan on his mission.[1]
While she was eager to take up Jedi training and learn the ways of the Force, she became easily frustrated with her lack of progress, often lashing out by physically damaging training remote droids when practicing with her lightsaber. She was also prone to giving into her emotions, nearly killing Remar Almor and Sharbrook when they attempted to assassinate Valera Teramo.[5]
