Charlotte Hobrough is the Ultimate Survivor of Survivor: Pulau Tiga.

Charlotte quickly built bonds on the Helang tribe with Uzma Bashir Sheikh and Adrian Bauckham, but was left vulnerable at the merge as both had previously been voted out and the former Ular members outnumbered the former Helang members 6-4. Due to her being perceived as non-threatening, Charlotte was left as the last Helang member standing after the Ular alliance voted out Simon Dunkley, Andy Fairfield and James Stroud consecutively, leaving her feeling dejected. At the final seven, Charlotte was spared after the former Ular members turned on challenge threat Pete Farrar, but shortly after, Richard Owen formed a counter-alliance with Charlotte and Jackie Carey, and forced a tiebreaker at the final six, eventually blindsiding Zoe Lyons. The new alliance would survive to the final three, with Charlotte winning the Final Immunity Challenge and voting out Richard, who she perceived to be a bigger jury threat. After being lauded for overcoming extreme 6-1 odds, Charlotte defeated Jackie in a 7-0 jury vote to become the series' first Ultimate Survivor.

Name: Charlotte
Age: 24
From: Rhoose
Marital Status: Married
Occupation: Police Officer
Luxury Item: Twister

At only 24-years-old, Charlotte is one of the youngest Detective Constables in the country. She's the middle child of five and is now married to a fellow police officer. She used to be a model and beauty queen but rebelled when told to lose weight.

She's both competitive and ambitious - she was a county-level gymnast and British Tae Kwon Do champion at 17. On the minus side, she's afraid of snakes and has limited experience of survival or physical deprivation. But her innate competitiveness and her ambition to be a TV presenter may see her through.

From florist to police officer - Charlotte is used to extremes. Will this experience help her reach the ultimate stage of Survivor?[2]

Survivor[]

Starting the game on the Helang tribe, Charlotte quickly built bonds with the younger members of her tribe, particularly with Uzma Bashir Sheikh and Adrian Bauckham. Her work ethic, along with Adrian's, was strongly criticised by J.J. Adams, who bonded with the older members of the tribe. After Helang lost the second Immunity Challenge of the season, a 4-4 tied vote occurred between J.J. and Uzma, with Charlotte voting against J.J., someone Charlotte perceived to be bossy. On the revote, Simon Dunkley changed his vote to J.J., and she was eliminated, to the satisfaction of Charlotte.

Helang would go on to lose the third Immunity Challenge, and Uzma's illness due to the harsh conditions continued. Despite Charlotte and Adrian's attempts to save her, Simon flipped once again and joined Andy Fairfield, James Stroud and Jayne Meyler in voting Uzma out. Helang would win the next Immunity Challenge, but after losing the fifth, Jayne, who repeatedly criticised Charlotte and Adrian's work ethic, was voted out unanimously after becoming homesick. Due to a mistake made by James in the next Immunity Challenge, Helang was forced to attend Tribal Council for a fourth time, putting them at a numerical disadvantage compared to Ular. Adrian was targeted for his serious lack of work ethic and perceived poor attitude, and despite Charlotte's attempts to save him, her closest ally was voted out 3-2.

Helang entered the merge at a 6-4 disadvantage, and the former Ular members began to systemically eliminate the former Helang members. As the Ular alliance held strong, prior to the first post-merge vote, James devised a strategy for the remaining Helang members to spread their votes among as many Ular members as possible, in the hopes that a tie would occur later in the game and that previous votes would be counted. As her former tribemates Simon, Andy and James (who were all deemed bigger strategic and physical threats than Charlotte) were voted out, Charlotte began to suffer emotionally, thinking it was only a matter of time until she was voted out, to the point where she was considering quitting. At the final seven, Charlotte was the last remaining former Helang member, and believed she was next to go. However, she got a reprieve after the former Ular members turned on one of their own, Pete Farrar, as he was seen as the biggest challenge threat remaining in the game.

At the final six, Charlotte was once again on the chopping block, but Richard Owen decided to flip from his alliance with Eve Holding, Mick Easton and Zoe Lyons to create a new three-person alliance with Charlotte and Jackie Carey. Thus, the vote at Tribal Council was tied at 3-3, with Charlotte and Zoe being targeted by the Ular alliance and the counter-alliance respectively. As per Survivor (U.K.) rules, previous votes were counted, and thanks to James's plan earlier in the merge, Zoe was eliminated as she had previously received five votes, and Charlotte had received just one - from Pete at the previous Tribal Council. As a result, Richard's new alliance had formed a majority, with Eve and Mick now in the minority. Zoe's blindside came as a shock to Eve and Mick, with the former being much more outwardly emotional at the result of the vote. Eve thus began sabotaging her tribe's items, causing Charlotte and the remaining Ular members to vote her out unanimously at the next vote. Mick was voted out shortly thereafter, with the counter-alliance of Charlotte, Jackie and Richard forming the final three.

Charlotte wound up winning the Final Immunity Challenge, and thus got to cast the deciding vote against either Jackie or Richard to become the final member of the jury. Believing Jackie to be much less of a jury threat, Charlotte voted Richard out at the final three. At the Final Tribal Council, the jury praised Charlotte for beating the odds to make it to the Final Two, and Jackie was largely criticised for being "carried" through the game by her alliance members. As a result, Charlotte was crowned the first Ultimate Survivor of the Survivor (U.K.) franchise by a unanimous vote of 7-0 over Jackie, winning £1,000,000 and becoming the first winner of an international English-language version of the Survivor franchise.

Post-Survivor[]

  • Following her win, Charlotte co-hosted Survivor: Raw on ITV's second channel, ITV2 alongside TV host Ed Hall. Survivor: Raw was a new series designed to accompany the second season, Survivor: Panama (U.K.), and showed extra footage not aired on the main series, discussions, interviews with those who had been voted out as well as calls and e-mails from viewers.
    • On August 6th, 2001, Charlotte appeared as a guest-host on an episode of The Big Breakfast, a Channel 4 light entertainment show featuring news segments, interviews, and other features. She was featured throughout the episode, but notably appeared on a segment called Game Show and Tell, where she discussed her Survivor experience as well as her previous appearances on TV shows such as Play Your Cards Right, Whatever You Want and Noel's House Party in an attempt to help a member of the public named Mandy who wanted to appear on a game show but had her applications repeatedly rejected.[3][4][5]
  • During the season, some fellow castaways and tabloid publications accused Charlotte of having an affair with her close ally Adrian Bauckham whilst on the island, making her Helang tribemates uncomfortable,[6] and many vilified her for allegedly being unfaithful to her husband, Mark. J.J. later accused Charlotte of lying over the incident in a press interview.[7] Despite not being mentioned on the show, the allegations became a large focus of the press, with the Daily Mail nicknaming the winner "Charlotte the Harlot".[8] Charlotte responded by saying the allegations were "blown out of all proportion"[9] and that the "embarrassment" her and her loved ones faced was "incredible".[8]
