The Soul Illusion (ソウルイリュージョン, Souru Iryuujon^?) is one of Rose's Super Combos, introduced along with her in the Street Fighter Alpha series. In Street Fighter V, this move becomes Rose's second V-Trigger.

Description[]

Executed by performing two quarter-circle forward motions and pressing kick, Rose creates afterimages of herself that copy her normal attacks (with a slight time delay), being essentially similar to a Custom Combo. The effect lasts until a predetermined amount of time expires, or Rose is hit.

Tactics[]

These afterimages attack a split-second after each other, extending combos and increasing hits while allowing more cancel opportunities.

In Street Fighter V, Soul Illusion does not go away on taking a hit. However, the short duration of this V-Trigger doesn't provide Rose much time and flexibility to pressure her opponent, unlike her first V-Trigger. The timer does not deplete during her throws, allowing her a way to continue her pressure against a blocking opponent. The scaling from a V-Trigger cancel should be put into consideration when activating, as Rose may only be able to use it in a single combo. Worth noting is that the afterimage is capable of hitting opponents on the ground. While this is often mitigated from soft knockdowns, Rose can confirm into her V-Trigger from a Crush Counter sweep and combo afterward, albeit with significant scaling.

Activating outside of a combo can be useful, especially as a punish. Rose's Soul Spark and Soul Punish are both powered up while under the effect of Soul Illusion, giving them an extra hit as opposed to creating a second projectile. This allows her to perform creative combos to deal chunks of damage to her opponent, push them into the corner, or create a potential mix-up situation.

Trivia[]

• Soul Illusion has the same effect like most V-Triggers in Street Fighter V, improving character's attacks, for example Chun-Li's Renkiko or Cammy's Delta Drive. After Rose was added to the game, Soul Illusion really became her V-Trigger.
• The word "Illusion" of Soul Illusion plus the word "Spark" of Soul Spark, were the inspiration for the name of the first Rose's Ultra Combo in the Street Fighter IV games, Illusion Spark.
• Soul Illusion has the same effect as the V-ISM mode.
