The Viga system was located in the Lostar sector[1] in the Outer Expansion Zone sub-region[2] and the Northern Dependencies portion of[3] the Expansion Region.[1] The system lay on the super-hyperroute known as the Hydian Way, between the Draria and Kidriff systems.[4]
The Viga system shared its name with the political organization known as the Viga alliance,[5] and it fell within the borders of the New Republic in 12 ABY.[4]

The Viga system was established in the StarWars.com Online Companion to the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas, authored by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry, which placed it in grid square M-7.[1]
