- "True, but we are not at war now. We are the farthest thing from it."
- ―Rana Kant, responding to Oppo Rancisis' comments about the Jedi's past history as a military force
Rana Kant was a Duros[2] Jedi Master of the Jedi Order, and the Master who trained Stellan Gios.[3]
Biography[]
Early in her career, Kant accompanied pilgrims to the planet Castell, which according to Jedi Master Harli Cogra, was a deeply influential experience for Kant. Cogra noted in Chronicles of the Jedi that as a result of the experience, Kant came to believe that the most essential Jedi virtues could only result from traveling around the galaxy. In the later years of her life, Kant rebuked the idea of retirement and chose to remain active.[7]
By 232 BBY,[8] Kant was a member of the Jedi High Council, though she had previously turned down the offer of joining the Council at least twice before. She preferred to serve outside of the Jedi Council Chamber as it allowed her to more closely assist the citizens of the galaxy.[7] In that year,[8] Kant was present on Coruscant during a Council meeting about whether the Jedi should assist the Republic Defense Coalition in hunting down the Nihil raiders in the aftermath of the Great Hyperspace Disaster. During the discussion, Kant responded to a comment from Master Oppo Rancisis about the Jedi's past participation in conflicts such as the Great Sith War by noting that they were not currently at war. Ultimately, the deciding vote was cast by Master Jora Malli, who voted in favor of participating.[6]
Shortly after the disaster, Kant died of natural causes, and Gios, who was chosen to fill her seat on the Council,[7] carried her lightsaber around in her memory for a time.[3]

Rana Kant was first mentioned in the 2020 reference book Star Wars: The Lightsaber Collection,[5] and first appeared in the 2021 novel The High Republic: Light of the Jedi.
