Orbaks were a species of horse-like riding beasts. Found on several worlds, their exact galactic origins were unclear, although the ocean moon Kef Bir was the homeworld of a herd of orbaks.
Biology and appearance[]
Their tusks were used to uproot the grasses that they ate, and their sturdy hooves were well-adapted for uncertain terrain. They were related to other riding beasts, including pulga, fathiers, bordoks, and tris.[4] They had heavy coats of black or white hair and slightly bowed backs.[1]
Behavior[]

Orbaks could be tamed to become very loyal riding mounts. When riding an orbak, a rider could steer them by directing their tusks, while a separate beast collar kept the saddle in place and allowed the rider to maintain control should the reins break free.[4]
History[]
On frontier worlds, orbaks were often domesticated for use in agriculture, transport, and occasionally warfare. Company 77, a group of stormtroopers who defected from the First Order, tamed a number of orbaks on Kef Bir. Led by Jannah, the tribe lived a nomadic lifestyle, using the orbaks as their mounts. The members of Company 77 had a close partnership with their orbaks, with the creatures allowing for exploration and travel at high speed, while the riders protected the orbaks from predators.[4]
During the Resistance's assault on the forces of the Sith Eternal led by the reborn Darth Sidious, Finn and Jannah rode orbaks in a ground assault atop[3] the Resurgent-class Star Destroyer Steadfast,[4] the flagship of First Order Allegiant General Enric Pryde.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
Orbaks were created for the 2019 film Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker.[3] They were first revealed on May 22, 2019, as part of a reveal of images and details regarding the film,[5] and first appeared in a tie-in event in the mobile game Star Wars: Commander[6] on December 19, 2019.[7]
