"At any rate, the war was finally won -- but at a terrible cost. Of the two hundred an' twelve Protectors that went inta battle, only three survived."
Fenn Shysa[2]

During the Clone Wars, the Mandalorian Protectors undertook a mission to Norval II for the Confederacy of Independent Systems, with the objective of capturing Galactic Republic Senator Padmé Amidala. However, the operation was a Republic trap, and the Protectors were ambushed and all but wiped out.

The mission[]

Late in the Clone Wars,[1] Separatist leader[5] Darth Sidious ordered the Mandalorian Protectors, led by rogue ARC trooper and Mandalore Alpha-Ø2, to capture Senator Padmé Amidala on Norval II. Howevever, the mission was a Galactic Republic ambush.[3] In his identity as the Republic's Supreme Chancellor Palpatine,[5] Sidious had simultaneously sent the Ailon Nova Guard to Norval II. The Nova Guard slaughtered the Supercommandos of the Mandalorian Protectors, with Fenn Shysa, Tobbi Dala, and Alpha-Ø2 as the only survivors,[1] and the majority of their BL-series Battle Legionnaire droids were destroyed.[3]

Aftermath[]

The mission would be the Mandalorian Protectors' last: after the Clone Wars, the shell-shocked Alpha-Ø2 left for the Extrictarium Nebula, where he succumbed to clone madness, leaving Dala and Shysa to rebuild the Protectors on the Imperial-enslaved Mandalore.[3]

  4. According to the The History of the Mandalorians, the mission to Norval II was the final mission undertaken by the Mandalorian Protectors in the Clone Wars. The New Essential Chronology establishes the Protectors to have fought in the war in 20 BBY, and the Clone Wars to have ended in 19 BBY. Therefore, the mission must have occurred between 20 and 19 BBY.
