"So you're doing this alone?"
"Sure, why not? Your dad raised you and Phel all by himself after Aunt Jorinda died."
"Only until he met Papa Luu."
"Still."
―Sana Starros and Aryssha discuss the latter's pregnancy[1]

Luu was a man who helped raise Sana and Phel Starros alongside the siblings' father during the Imperial Era on the Outer Rim moon Nar Shaddaa. Eventually, they and Starros' father retired to the Outer Rim planet Dalna. Between 3 ABY and 4 ABY, Sana informed her cousin Aryssha about her dads' whereabouts and later remarked that she wished she had visited her fathers instead of stopping by her family's homestead on the Core Worlds planet Hosnian Prime.

Biography[]

"So, are your dads still on Nar Shaddaa?"
"No, they retired to Dalna."
―Aryssha and Sana Starros[1]

Luu helped raise Phel and Sana Starros (pictured) alongside the twins' father.

Luu was a male individual who lived during the Imperial Era. Following the death of the human Sana Starros' motherJorinda[1]—at some point by around 11 BBY,[2] they met Starros' father. Luu then helped raise Sana and her twin brotherPhel Starros—as their second parent as the siblings[1] grew up on[3] the Outer Rim moon[4] Nar Shaddaa[1] alongside several other members of the family. Sana later left Nar Shaddaa to study at the University of Bar'leth, prompting Phel to eventually join the Galactic Empire's service after her departure—though most of his family regarded his enlistment as a betrayal.[5] Luu and Starros' father remained on the moon for some time before eventually moving to[1] the Outer Rim planet[6] Dalna to retire.[1]

Sana Starros and Aryssha discuss the former's fathers on Hosnian Prime.

During a visit to the family's homestead on[1] the Core Worlds planet[7] Hosnian Prime[1] between 3 ABY and 4 ABY,[8] Sana and her cousin Aryssha discussed the former's dads. Aryssha—who was expecting twins—indicated that she would like to raise her children alone, similar to how Sana's father had after Jorinda's passing. However, Sana reminded her cousin that Luu had helped raise her and Phel after her mother's death.[1]

Not long after, Sana remarked that she wished she had visited her fathers instead of stopping by the homestead, unhappy with being unwittingly enlisted to help recover a family heirloom Phel had stolen from their family compound.[9] During the endeavor, the family's matriarch, Thea Starros, was taken captive by Phel—who was by then an Imperial officer—in a skirmish on[5] the Colonies[7] planet Hynestia. After being taken aboard the Imperial Raider-class corvette King's Ransom, she admonished him for his actions against his family and commented that his fathers had raised him to do better.[5]

Personality and traits[]

"Grammy…"
"Save it. Your fathers raised you better than this. Just shameful."
―Phel and Thea Starros, about the former's fathers[5]

Sana cared for her adoptive father and was open to the idea of visiting her fathers during their retirement[9] on Dalna.[1] Thea respected Luu's parenting skills, indicating to Phel that his dads had brought him up better than how he had behaved when he had taken the former captive.[5]

Behind the scenes[]

Luu was first mentioned in the first issue of the comic-book series Star Wars: Sana Starros, which was written by Justina Ireland and published by Marvel Comics[1] on February 1, 2023.[10]

  8. The events of Star Wars: Sana Starros take place between those of issue 31 and issue 38 of the 2020 Star Wars: Doctor Aphra comic-book series. Issue 31 is also set after Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters crossover event, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 3 ABY, while issue 38 is a part of the Star Wars: Dark Droids crossover event, which is followed by the events of issue 43 of the 2020 Star Wars series. Furthermore, the flashbacks of issue 50 of the Star Wars series—which follow the events of issue 43—take place approximately twenty-two years after Sheev Palpatine's ascension to the title of Galactic Emperor. Since Timelines dates that event to 19 BBY, the flashbacks must occur around 3 ABY and the events of Sana Starros must therefore also take place around the latter year.
