"Momageddon" is a SpongeBob SquarePants episode from season 14. In this episode, the Krusty Krew get lazy when their moms take over the Krusty Krab.

Characters[]

Synopsis[]

There is a large mob of angry customers in the Krusty Krab, leaving Mr. Krabs confused. He goes into the kitchen to see SpongeBob's mother, Margaret, making Krabby Patties with love and care. SpongeBob explains that it is Bring Your Mom to Work Day. Krabs and Squidward's moms show up, with the former lecturing her son about how he could be even cheaper to save money, while the latter nags Squidward as he tries to take orders.

Momageddon 085

The moms decide to renovate the Krusty Krab.

Margaret serves Old Man Jenkins' food, and the taste of it makes Old Man Jenkins remember his own childhood. The customers no longer want SpongeBob's food because it is produced fast and without love, making them riot. The mothers decide they should run the restaurant, and sentence their sons to the "shame corner." Mr. Krabs' mother renovates the restaurant, saving money using things that Margaret had in her car. Krabs decides he can reclaim the Krusty Krab once their moms get exhausted, and Bubble Bass shows up.

Momageddon 149

Bubble Bass, Mr. Krabs, Squidward, and SpongeBob hanging out in the basement.

Mr. Krabs' mother serves Bubble Bass and Mama Bass. Mama Bass babies her son, and Margaret serves the food. SpongeBob realizes that everyone is liking the restaurant more. The three employees are amazed at how completely successful their mothers are at running the restaurant. Mr. Krabs and Squidward feel guilty seeing the moms do all the work, but Bubble Bass claims they need to embrace their mothers' love more. He takes them to the Krusty Krab basement and turns it into a hangout. He explains that they can do whatever they want while having their mothers serving them snacks. Bubble Bass leaves to get ice cream with his mother.

SpongeBob, Mr. Krabs, and Squidward hang out in the basement, acting as slackers and demanding things from their mothers. After a sleepover, they wake up to find a bunch of dads in the restaurant. Their own dads are there too, and SpongeBob realizes it's Bring Your Dad to Work Day. When their dads make requests, they collapse and cry out for their mommies.

Momageddon update

On October 8, 2023, Dave Cunningham had confirmed on the Encyclopedia SpongeBobia Discord server that all of the storyboards that were accidentally released didn't end up appearing in the final episode. However, he reaffirmed on January 31, 2024 that the situation featured in the scene itself was not deleted. Instead, a different version plussed by another storyboard artist was what would appear in the final product.

Despite being copyrighted in 2024, this episode was completed in late 2023.[4]

Workprint[]

On April 8, 2024, Rough Draft Korea published an article about their animation process. Two images from the production of "Momageddon" are used.[5]

Trivia[]

General[]

  • This episode marks the first time in a year since January 20, 2023 where it premieres alongside its sister on the same day in the United States, the previous being "Abandon Twits" and "Wallhalla."
  • This episode's title is a portmanteau of the words "mom" and "armageddon."
  • Mrs. Tentacles was given a third 2D design for this episode, following her first 2D ("Fools in April"), second 2D ("Krusty Towers" through "Scavenger Pants" plus picture cameos in "Pat Hearts Squid" and "Get Off My Lawnie"), and 3D ("Kamp Kow") designs.
    • Her second 2D design was taken up by Granny Tentacles, who became a more prominent character in the franchise by the time of this episode.
    • This is also Jeff Tentacles' first physical appearance in the series.
  • In this episode, Margaret SquarePants has a higher-pitched version of SpongeBob's normal walking sound.
  • Squidward's pose when he, SpongeBob, and Mr. Krabs whimper on the floor at the end is identical to the one he did in "Mutiny on the Krusty," "Out of the Picture," "Feral Friends," and "The Jellyfish Kid."
  • This episode takes place between January 8 and 9, 2023,[1] according to the since plussed-over storyboard scenes.
  • Despite Scott Bern providing (albeit, redone) storyboards for this episode, he went uncredited.
  • This is Betsy Krabs' first appearance since "Lame and Fortune" and her first speaking role since "Spongicus," 16 years prior.

Episode references[]

Cultural references[]
