Today, I'm reviewing/saluting on a Nintendo Switch game called Mario Party Superstars and why it's a great game!
The Good Qualities:
The game is fun to play!
Great graphics, as always!
There are five different game boards to choose from, and they're all from the golden age of the Mario Party series, the Nintendo 64 era!
Also, most of the game boards are big, which offers more gameplay variety and fun! Even the somewhat smaller boards like Yoshi's Tropical Island or Peach's Birthday Cake are still fun to play!
Once you complete each game board once, you have the option to have the original N64 music play for the boards!
Great variety of minigames, 100 of them to be exact!
There are minigames from each of the main console entries in the series, which is a good thing!
The music is OUTSTANDING, as always!
Good selection of characters to choose from!
The game can be played with either Joy-Cons, regular controllers (including Nintendo Switch Pro controllers), or in handheld mode! This is a huge improvement over the previous Mario Party game for Nintendo Switch, Super Mario Party, where you could only play with Joy-Cons!
The Bad Qualities:
There are only 2 or 3 minigames from Mario Party 8, in contrast to there being several minigames from most of the other main games in the series! This isn't a huge issue, but it would've been nice to see this get more minigame representation.
Some minigames can be hard at first, but with some practice, you can get the hang of them eventually!
Reception:
Mario Party Superstars has received generally positive reception from critics. For example, Metacritic gave the game an 80/100 rating based on 88 reviews, Game Informer gave it an 8/10 rating, and Mitchell Saltzman of IGN gave a favorable review, stating: "Mario Party Superstars is an amalgamation of some of the best boards, minigames, mechanics, and quality of life improvements from the whole series, resulting in the best Mario Party has been in a very long time."
One final note: Mario Party Superstars is WAY better than Super Mario Party! It has better boards and minigame variety than SMP, plus it lets you play in handheld mode or with a Nintendo Switch Pro controller, which SMP didn't offer the ability to do!
I hope you enjoyed my review/salute on Mario Party Superstars, and have a great day, everyone!
