The Otherworlds (異世界, Isekai^?) are locations that appear in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Originating in the 2023 Calendar Stories, they are a collection of worlds created by Doctor Eggman via the power of a Phantom Ruby prototype.^[1] Created from a person's thoughts or desires through a process known as "Otherworldifcation", these worlds are then made a reality.

Description[]

The Otherworlds take on a variety of different appearances depending on the person's desire. These can include, but are not limited to, a stage, a fortune telling hall or a pizzeria. Otherworlds can also take on the appearance of locations within Earth, such as Soleanna or Station Square. While under the effects of 'Otherworldifcation', the inhabitant's memories are repressed, and they only have memories of existing within the Otherworld.^[2] In cases where the two characters bond is strong enough, they will recall faint feelings of deja-vu with one another.^[3] The only way to reverse this effect is to having contact with another person with a Chaos Emerald who has regained their memories (With Sonic and Tails immune from the start due to their close contact before the 'Otherworldification').^[4] While in the Otherworlds, the Chaos Emeralds are mutated to look like jewelry and trinkets such as tiaras and pendants.^[5]

The Otherworlds were created by Dr. Eggman with a Phantom Ruby Prototype. As Super Eggman, he holds the power to change Otherworlds at will such as changing skyscrapers into several copies of Perfect Chaos. He also uses this as a manipulative tool to try and make Sonic concede by showing him his own Otherworld, a version of Green Hill filled with oceans and rivers of Chili dogs.

It also appears that Otherworlds hold the ability to bring back those who are no longer alive, such as the fact that Tikal and Chaos were able to live and thrive in their own Otherworld, and even express fear at the end of the 'otherworldification'. It is stated that every character has their own Otherworld. ^[6]

The Otherworlds created by Eggman can be destroyed by Super Sonic by opposing them with a bright light symbolizing the heart and will that the fake worlds and enemies lack. The Otherworlds cease to be for much longer when Super Eggman's Phantom Ruby core is destroyed. When the 'Otherworldification' wares off, visitors of the Otherworld become transparent and disappear into light.^[7]

Tails and Marine - A theater stage with actors recounting famous plays.

Orbot, Cubot and Gemerl - A world with mecha and gundam.

Blaze and Silver - A hotel over a Chao Garden that is renovated to become a Chao maid café.

Rouge and Omega - Origami martial artists.

Cream. Cheese, Big and Froggy - A world containing shady doings between the mafia and a pair of young detectives, set in Station Square.

Knuckles and Sonic: A wrestling arena featuring a fighting king and a jester.

Super Sonic and Super Eggman - A destroyed Station Square from the Chaos incident.

Others[]

Eggman creates several worlds containing the Space Colony ARK/Eclipse Cannon, the Lost Hex, Eggmanland and Egg Planet Park.

Sonic's Personal Otherworld features Green Hill filled with rivers of Chili dogs.
