The Flybot767[1] (フライボット767[2] Furaibotto767?), also known as simply Flybot[3] and later Moewe (メーベ[4][5] Mēbe?) in Japan, is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, seagull-based Badnik created by Dr. Eggman.

Based on seagulls, the Flybot767s have grey armor with red plating on top. They also have a small pair of eyes, a medium-long and thin beak. Their wing designs are also based on the oblique wings, a geometry wing concept.

Overview[]

Flybot767-Alarm-System-Sonic-3-&-Knuckles

The alarm gate, that activates Flybot767 Badniks to attack the player in Launch Base Zone.

In Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and the lock-on game Sonic 3 & Knuckles, the Flybot767s are enemies that are exclusively found in Launch Base Zone.

In gameplay, the Flybot767s attack separately in certain sections, but they can also be summoned by the numerous alarm systems throughout the Zone, such as the in the beginning of Act 1. When attacking, they fly in from the right side of the screen and dive-bomb into the player. If the player dodges their attack, the Flybot767s will turn around and repeat their attack. Despite this, the Flybot767s can be easily destroyed otherwise with a Spin Jump and other related attacks from the player. Upon destruction, they will release an Animal and award the player 100 points.

Trivia[]

  • It is possible to earn a huge amount of points in Launch Base Zone by standing in front of the first alarm and staying in the Spin Dash position. From there, numerous Flybot767s will continually dive-bomb the player, only to be destroyed. However, this could also result in a Time Over if the player takes too long.
  • The Flybot767s' second Japanese name, "Moewe" is derived from möwe, the German word for a gull.
  • The "767" at the end of its name may be a reference to the Boeing 767. This is further accompanied by the fact that its shape closely resembles an airplane.
  • In-game, the Flybot767s have a green underside. They lack this in their artwork with silver taking its place, most likely due to palette limitations. This green is shared with Ribot, another Badnik appearing in Launch Base Zone.
  • Despite not appearing in Sonic Heroes, the Flybot767s are present within a piece of concept art for the stage Egg Fleet, suggesting that they were at one point planned to appear as enemies within the game before being scrapped somewhere in development.
    • It is possible that the Falco Badniks were what ultimately replaced the Flybot767s in the final game, as both are bird-based Badniks with similar attack patterns.
  • Vultron from Sonic Mania behaves very similarly to Flybot767, although they are usually found perched instead of being summoned by alarms.
