The Sonic Official Fan Meeting Tour is an ongoing series of events organized by Sega to engage with the Sonic the Hedgehog fan community across Asia, including Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan as part of an expanded regional community outreach program.
The Sonic Official Fan Meeting Tour was first announced on 19 September 2023, when Sonic Channel announced plans for a tour across Japan-Asia throughout 2023 and 2024 with the goal of it being an event to have discussions and activities between Sega staff and the fans. The original tour consisted of six venues, beginning in Tokyo on 5 November 2023 at Sega Headquarters, with other meetups in cities such as Osaka, Fukuoka, and Sapporo occurring in the following weeks. In addition to the Japan venues, the tour also visited Taipei in February 2024 and Seoul in March 2024, with included notable guests, such as Jun Senoue, Takashi Iizuka, Kazuyuki Hoshino, Eitaro Toyoda, and Liu Yutong Haruka appearing throughout.[1][2] The events included activities such as the selling of official merchandise, constructing Sonic-themed paper lanterns, getting to take pictures with Sonic, playable demos of Sonic X Shadow Generations, and panels hosted where the development team would share stories, concept art, and answer pre-selected questions from the attending fans.[3]
Guests were free to attend, but were responsible for their own travel expenses and due to limited venue capacities (between thirty to fifty people per event), attendees had to apply in advance, and a lottery system was used if there were more applicants than available spots.[4]
On 19 September 2024, it was announced by Sega Korea that the tour would be expanded with additional stops being made in more Southeast Asian countries and territories, including Thailand, Indonesia and China throughout 2024-2025, with planned events in Seoul, Bangkok, Jakarta, Taiwan, Kuala Lumpur and more, with special guests to be announced later.[5]
On 7 October 2024, it was announced the first of three fan meet-ups in Asia is happening in Bangkok, 18 October, with the the second meet-up in Jakarta being announced shortly afterwards, scheduled for the 9 November 2024. Kazuyuki Hoshino and Shun Nakamura are scheduled to attend both events.[6][7]
