The Egg Frog[1] (エッグフロッグ Eggu Furoggu?) is an object which appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a combat vehicle used by Dr. Eggman.

Description[]

Apperance[]

The Egg Frog is mostly gray, with four small yellow headlights wrapped around the side of the cockpit, and has two "legs" comprised of round gray and orange metallic rings andthat protrude from either side of the main cockpit. Each leg ends with a "foot" which are an attachment of two wheels, somewhat resembling rollerskates.

Features and abilities[]

The Egg Frog is highly mobile and flexible, being able to move fast enough to keep up with Sonic. It can also leap effortlessly between the floor and ceiling surfaces regardless of gravity.

The Egg Frog is armed with "carpet-bombing" missiles that can leave trails of explosions spanning for several meters after impact.

Battle[]

The Egg Frog is the primary boss of Egg Utopia and the seventh boss overall in Sonic Advance 2. It will also be encountered as the seventh boss in XX. It can be fought by Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Cream and Amy.

Boss guide[]

This battle is centered on an endless hall where Rings will generally spawn in mid-air. Touching the Egg Frog's feet will damage the player. Unique to this fight, the player has the ability to invert gravity at anytime by pressing Up (while on the ground) and Down (while on the ceiling) on Directional buttons which is essential for helping the player avoid the Egg Frog's attacks, as well as being able to hit and damage the Egg Frog. Its attacks include:

  • The Egg Frog will leap from one surface to the other, dropping a missile on the surface it stood at, which explodes into a trail of fire when it lands. It can also drop the missile without leaping if the Egg Frog and the player are on opposite surfaces. A Spin Jump alone will not be able to avoid this attack so the player will need to invert gravity as well.
  • The Egg Frog can slow down, causing it to move off-screen to the left. It will eventually slide back on-screen at the opposite surface with a burst of speed in attempt of a surprise attack at the player from behind.

After two/four hits (on the Easy/Normal difficulty respectively), Egg Frog goes into pinch mode, causing it to execute its attacks faster. Once hitting the Egg Frog four more times, it will be destroyed.

In XX, the Egg Frog has the same movement and attack patterns from the Egg Utopia battle. However, it only takes three/four hits (on Easy/Normal respectively) to be destroyed.
