Build-A-Bear Workshop, Inc. is an American retailer established in 1997 that sells teddy bears, stuffed animals and plush toys. Customers can go through an interactive process in which the stuffed animal of their choice is assembled and tailored to their own preferences. Build-A-Bear Workshop is the largest chain that operates in this style. In 2016, Build-A-Bear produced merchandise for the Sonic the Hedgehog series, then for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie in 2020.^[1]

Sonic the Hedgehog (2016)[]

In December 2016, Build-A-Bear and Sega had teamed up in celebration of the Sonic the Hedgehog 25th Anniversary to produce plush toys of Sonic the Hedgehog and Miles "Tails" Prower.^[2][1] They were available in store and online, but online purchases of the Sonic toy included an exclusive golden Ring accessory and excluisve print designed by Sonic Team.^[3][4] Also available was a T-shirt for any Build-A-Bear doll that featured a 2D design of Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. A digital sound clip was also available that played music from the Sonic 3 & Knuckles Special Stage.^[2]

Sonic the Hedgehog (film) (2020)[]

In December 2019, Sega of America announced that select Build-a-Bear Workshop locations would launch specialty plush items and accessories to coincide with the release of the Sonic the Hedgehog film.^[5] Like several other merchandise items for the film, the plush toy of Sonic was based his original design.^[6]

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (film) (2022)[]

On 24 March 2022, Build-A-Bear revealed a line of products for the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 film.^[7][8] Three new plushes were included in the line, the most in a single Sonic line from the company so far.
