Benedict[1] is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. He was a robotic echidna created by the Dark Legion to run in the Echidnaopolis elections in 3236.
Appearance[]
In his regular form, Benedict resembles a mobian echidna with red "fur", tan "skin", gray "hair", and blue eyes. For attire, he wears a pair of brown boots, a gray jacket, a brown belt, a pair of green pants, a pair of white gloves, and a blue scabbard. Underneath all his attire and fake skin benedict possesses a robotic skeleton with red eyes.[2][3]
History[]
Dark Alliance[]
Benedict was created in 3236 when the Dark Legion attempted to gain power in Echidnaopolis "legally". With Benedict as their candidate, they hoped to win the High Councilor elections after brainwashing the current High Councilor Pravda into stepping down and announcing his support for Benedict. Benedict managed to captivate some of the audience at his rally and gain some support from echidna voters, while also pushing many potential voters away due to his controversial speech and blatant loyalty to the Dark Legion. Following his speech, Benedict attempted to blackmail Constable Remington into joining his cause and allowing him to rig the elections, threatening to reveal Remington's family relations to Kragok. Remington refused however, angering Benedict. Shortly thereafter, Benedict was destroyed when a captured Knuckles unleashed a large amount of Chaos radiation which destroyed his circuits and exposed him to be a robot, just as Benedict was declared the winner. However, Dimitri did have the foresight to name a back-up candidate in his stead.[1][2][3]
Personality[]
Although capable of intelligent thought, Benedict is entirely loyal to the Dark Legion, and serves them willingly. Although sometimes forceful, Benedict appears to have some skill in persuasion, and is learned in political matters. Benedict is also skilled at manipulating his opponents for his own gain.[1][3]
Powers and abilities[]
Benedict wears a large scabbard with a sword sheathed in it, suggesting he has some sword skills.[2]
Trivia[]
- Unlike most echidnas, Benedict is depicted with four fingers on each hand. However, it is unknown whether this was an intentional design choice or not, as all issues Benedict appears in erroneously depict all echidnas with four fingers on each hand.
