The Bat[note 1] is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, bat-based Badnik model created by Dr. Robotnik.
Appearance[]
Bats are Badnik designed like bats. They each have an orange and torso, as well as a pair of gray wings and legs. On they heads they each also have two gay spikes for ears, a gray muzzle, two fangs for teeth, a purple nose, two cartoonish black eyes, and red eyelids.
Overview[]
In Sonic 3D Blast, the Bats are encountered exclusively as enemies in Volcano Valley Zone. In gameplay, they will fly erratically around their designated area in their Acts, trying to fly into Sonic. They also have no active defensive or offensive techniques, meaning the only way these Badniks can hurt Sonic is if the hedgehog bumps right into them.
These Badniks can easily be destroyed with a Spin Attack, Spin Dash or Spin Jump. Upon their destruction, they release their respective power source, a purple Flicky, which can be picked up by Sonic.

Thanks to their wings, the Bats are capable of flight.

However, its name was revealed in the Debug Mode for the unofficial Sonic 3D Blast: Director's Cut video game developed by Jon Burton, the lead programmer of the Genesis version of Sonic 3D Blast. When asked about its validity, Burton confirmed that this Badnik's name was used in the original game.
