Prince Rogers Nelson (June 7, 1958-April 21, 2016) was an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Widely praised as one of the greatest musicians of his generation[1], Prince was known for playing most, if not all of the instruments on his recordings[2]. In addition, he self-produced his albums, pioneering the sub-genre of funk rock known as the Minneapolis sound. Prince's music incorporated wide variety of styles, including funk, R&B, rock, new wave, soul, synth-pop, pop, jazz, and hip hop. At age nineteen, Prince signed a record deal with Warner Bros. Records. After releasing For You (1978) and Prince (1979), Prince achieved critical success with the records Dirty Mind (1980), Controversy (1981) and 1999 (1982), the last of which marked the recording debut of his backing band the Revolution. Princes sixth album, Purple Rain (1984), served as the soundtrack to his film acting debut of the same name. In addition to continuing Prince's critical success, Purple Rain a major commercial milestone for him, spending six consecutive months atop the Billboard 200. The album also spawned the single "Let's Go Crazy", which topped the US Billboard Hot 100 and appeared in Sing 2. Read more here... References
