History[edit]

Homer Simpson was remanded to the custody of the United States Army Neurochemical Research Center at Fort Meade, Maryland, for extensive testing.[1]

In 1796, a fiercely determined band of pioneers led by Jebediah Springfield left Maryland after misinterpreting a passage in the Bible. Their destination was New Sodom, but instead, they founded Springfield.[2]

After getting run out of Florida, the Simpson family was trying to decide on where to go for their next vacation. They were looking at a map of the US that had most of the states crossed out, which were apparently all the states that the Simpsons were no longer allowed to enter.[3]

The book The Shore Birds of Maryland was part of Bart Simpson's homework assignment.[4]
