Phyllis Newman (March 19, 1933 – September 15, 2019) was an American actress, activist and singer. She won the 1962 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her role as Martha Vail in the Broadway-theatre production of Subways Are for Sleeping. She was nominated twice for the Drama Desk Award.
Newman was a breast cancer survivor.[1] She died on September 15, 2019 in New York City at the age of 86.[2] The cause of death was lung disease-related problems.[3]
