Joanne Chory

Joanne Chory (1955 – November 12, 2024) was an American plant biologist and geneticist. Chory was a professor and director of the Plant Molecular and Cellular Biology Laboratory, at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. She was an investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.[1]

Chory was elected as a foreign member of the Royal Society in 2011. In 2024, she won the Wolf Prize in Agriculture.

Chory was born in Boston, Massachusetts. She studied at Oberlin College and at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

In 2004, Chory was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. She died on November 12, 2024 from problems caused by the disease in La Jolla, California at the age of 69.[2]
