Gurbanguly Mälikgulyýewiç Berdimuhamedow (born 29 June 1957)[1] is a Turkmen politician. He was the 2nd President of Turkmenistan from 2007 until 2022.
Berdimuhamedow, a dentist, worked in the government under President Saparmurat Niyazov as Minister of Health.[2] He is the first dentist in the world to head a state or a government.[3]
In February 2022, Berdimuhamedow announced his plans not to run for re-election in 2022.[4][5]
