Shadow the Hedgehog is a major character in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, serving as the main antagonist of Sonic Adventure 2 and later an anti-heroic arch-rival of Sonic.
From Sonic Adventure 2 to Sonic Heroes, he was voiced by David Humphrey while Ryan Drummond did a few recordings on the former. From Sonic X to Sonic and the Black Knight, he was voiced by Jason Griffith, who also voiced his rival, Sonic, in the same era. He is currently voiced by Kirk Thornton. In Japanese, he is voiced by Kōji Yusa.
What Makes Him a Shonen Hero?[]
- Heroic/Honorable: Out of a desire to live up to his promise to Maria, Shadow saves the world from the Biolizard by the end of Sonic Adventure 2 and defeated Black Doom twice.
- Courageous: Shadow doesn't fear anything at all no matter how dangerous they are.
- Energetic: While usually calm, Shadow has moments of being hotblooded
- Stubborn: Despite Black Doom wanting him to be more violent and evil like he is, Shadow fights against him instead.
- Pursues A Big-End Goal: Shadow's goal is to fulfill Maria's wish to let people be happy.
- Hard-Working: Shadow is shown to work hard in achieving his goals.
- Determined: Shadow is determined to fulfill Maria's wish, and this drove him to save the world from the Biolizard and defeat Neo Devil Doom in Shadow Gens.
- Confident/Cocky: Being the ultimate lifeform, Shadow is highly confident in his abilities, to the point of egomania.
- Self-Sacrificing: Shadow often puts himself in danger to get what he wants.
- Resilient: Shadow doesn't allow anything to push him down for long.
- Spiky Hair/Unnatural Hairstyle: Being a hedgehog, Shadow has spiky quills similar to hair, and his quills are to some extent even more spiky than Sonic's.
- Unnatural Hair Color: Black and red.
- Has Rivals: Shadow has a rivalry with Sonic.
- Tragic Past: Shadow has an extremely tragic background. He was created by Gerald Robotnik to find a cure for his terminally ill granddaughter Maria. Shadow then became very close to her and later when she was killed by a G.U.N. soldier, and along with his memories altered by Gerald, Shadow would then go on a vengeful path.
- Is a Blood Knight: Desiring to assert his superiority, Shadow adores a good fight.
- Is a Primary Color Champion: Shadow has red stripes and golden limiters.
- Is a Challenge Seeker: Shadow enjoys challenging Sonic.
- Is a True Hero: All out of his promise to fulfill Maria's wish of giving people a chance to be happy, Shadow frequently risks his life to protect the world.
- Calls Out Attacks: Shadow calls out the following attacks:
- CHAOS CONTROL!!!
- CHAOS SPEAR!!!
- CHAOS... BLAST!!!
- Is A Mascot With Attitude: Shadow is extremely edgy and has a lot of cool powers and abilities and is extremely skilled at using them.
- Is A Shotoclone: Especially by Shadow Gens, where his physical attacks mirror those of Sonic's. He still has his Chaos Spears in that game and can generally do Spin Dashes and Spin Jumps like Sonic.
