Cherokee was Sidney Prescott's pet dog. He is a golden retriever.

Now somewhat of an agoraphobic, Sidney Prescott moved away from civilization, secluded in a heavily guarded home in the woods of Monterey, California, working for a crisis call center during the year 2000. Taking Cherokee for a walk was one of the tasks that Sidney did involving the outdoors during this time. She did this every day before work.
At the beginning of the film, she is seen walking Cherokee back home. Nervous to get home, she summons Cherokee clapping and saying “Come on, Cherokee, come on!” and puts the locks on the doors going inside.
Cherokee is seen resting on the floor of her home one night after her father, Neil Prescott leaves the house while Sidney naps. After Sidney has a nightmare, she jumps up exciting Cherokee. Cherokee is bothered by her scare and cries out before leaving the room.
At the end of the film, Sidney opens her gates as Sidney lets Cherokee free to roam the property.
Trivia[]
- Cherokee is not the only dog to appear in a Scream film. In Scream 2 (1997 film), a dog is leg by a co-ed in front of the crowd that goes to investigate after news of Cici's murder, and the dog is none other than Liev Schreiber's own.
- It is likely that Cherokee was purchased by Neil, Sidney's father, so Sidney would have a companion and wouldn’t be in complete isolation.
- Cherokee isn’t seen after Scream 3, and likely died by the time of Scream 4 (2011).
